5 cereals that are high in calcium

Published by Finn Hayden

Calcium is a nutrient that helps you build strong bones and teeth, but it's also a nutrient that many of us don't get enough of. According to the NHS, the recommended daily intake of calcium is 700mg per day for adults, which is quite a bit higher than most people realise.

If you're a vegan, it's extra important to be aware of your calcium intake, as vegan food doesn't contain dairy, which is high in calcium.

As we've demonstrated in other guides recently, some cereals can be a great source of nutrients that we don't get enough of, and there are lots of cereals out there which have been fortified with calcium. We thought it would be useful to round up the best high calcium that we've tried, let's get into it:

Ready Brek

We've mentioned in a previous guide that Ready Brek is pretty healthy overall, and part of what makes Ready Brek so healthy is that it's fortified with vitamins and minerals, including Calcium. You'll find 1340mg of Calcium in 100g of Ready Brek, which is 168% of your recommended daily intake. Learn more and buy it here - sainsburys.co.uk

Multigrain Cheerios

We mentioned that Nestlé often releases whole grain cereals, but similar to Kellogg's, Nestlé will also often fortify its cereals with vitamins and minerals, including Calcium. Cheerios Multigrain is an example of a Nestlé cereal which is packed with Calcium - you'll find 535mg of Calcium in 100g of Cheerios Multigrain cereal, which is 67% of your recommended daily intake. Kellogg's Rice Krispies Multigrain

We've mentioned previously that Kellogg's fortifies a lot of their cereals with vitamins and minerals such as iron and vitamin D, and the brand will also add Calcium to lots of its cereals. Rice Krispies Multigrain is a Kellogg's cereal which is especially high in Calcium, with 456mg of Calcium per 100g. If you want the same amount of Calcium but an even better taste, then go for the Rice Krispies Multigrain Shapes Honey cereal, which also contains 456mg of Calcium per 100g. Weetabix Crunchy Bran Cereal

The Weetabix brand will often fortify its cereals with vitamins and minerals, but we could only find one variety of Weetabix cereal which had been fortified with a significant amount of Calcium, and that was Weetabix Crunchy Bran. You'll find 344mg of Calcium per 100g of Weetbix Crunchy Bran cereal, which is 43% of your daily recommended intake. Learn more and buy it here - amazon.co.uk

Nesquik Choco Waves Cereal

Although we don't think that the Nesquik powder is particularly healthy, the Nesquik Chocolate Cereal is actually quite impressive. Like many Nestle cereals, it's a whole grain cereal, and it's also packed with vitamins and minerals, including Calcium. But it's the Nesquik Choco Waves cereal which is especially high in calcium, with 502mg of Calcium per 100g, which is 63% of your daily recommended intake.
