The best vegan ice cream you can buy in the UK (top 7)

Published by Finn Hayden

The number of vegan products popping up on our supermarket shelves is growing hugely, and many people - even those who aren't limited to a vegan diet - are getting on board with these new products. Until recently, the one vegan product which has really taken some convincing to get people excited about is vegan ice cream, as many people just don't see how you could make delicious ice cream without milk. But there are so many excellent vegan ice cream options available now, and we wanted to highlight some of the best that we've tried. Let's get into it:

Jude's oat-based ice cream

We included Jude's in our list of the best low calorie ice cream, and we feel similarly about the vegan ice cream from Jude's - it's excellent, particularly the Vanilla Bean variety we tried. This ice cream is made from oat milk and had a real richness and creaminess to it. But it also has a real quality to it and could easily be paired with a homemade apple crumble or similar to create a luxury-feeling meal. It's no wonder that so many restaurants choose to use this ice cream within their vegan dessert options. Learn more and buy it here - ocado.com

Booja-Booja

Booja-Booja is a really interesting vegan chocolate brand which has emerged as one of the best in the UK in recent years. The brand is best known for producing great-tasting truffles, but the ice cream from Booja-Booja is quickly becoming one of the best-selling products in the Booja-Booja range too. It's not hard to see why - not only does it taste great, but the entire range is very simple. The Honeycomb Caramel variety (pictured) is made from just 6 ingredients. Halo Top plant-based

Halo Top is another brand that we included in our low calorie ice cream guide, and the vegan version of the Halo Top ice cream is no different - it manages to be both delicious and contain just 380kcal per tub, which is very low. We really loved the taste of this Caramel Chocolate Pretzel ice cream from Halo Top, which is made using oat milk to make it nice and creamy. On top of the low calories, each tub also contains 20 grams of protein, which will keep you feeling full. Learn more and buy it here - halotop.uk

Magnum Vegan

Magnums are one of the best-selling ice cream products in the UK, and millions of people enjoy these every year. When the team at Magnum released a vegan version of their iconic ice cream, many eyebrows were raised. But we think they totally nailed it - we found the Vegan Magnum (specifically the Almond variety that we tried) to taste very good, and importantly, it still had that iconic crunch. Made using coconut fat and Rainforest Alliance Certified chocolate, it also still had a luxury taste to it. Buy it here - magnumicecream.com

Morrisons Free From ice cream

Most of the supermarkets have an own-brand vegan ice cream on the shelves, but of all the supermarkets we tried, we definitely think Morrisons had the best (especially the Strawberry variety, pictured). It had a good consistency and the taste was really fruity. This ice cream is also free from gluten too, which is an added bonus. Buy it here - groceries.morrisons.com

Oatly ice cream

Oatly is one of the biggest oat milk brands in the UK, and the ice cream produced by this brand is also very good. What we really love about it is that, for a vegan ice cream, it is very creamy. The Chocolate Fudge variety (pictured) is really chocolatey and totally delicious. Buy it here - tesco.com

Swedish Glace

Swedish Glace is a plant-based ice cream brand from the Walls company, which unlike most of the other vegan ice creams in this list is made from soy milk. This gives it a slightly different taste which we actually really enjoy - still very creamy, but a slightly different texture. This ice cream is also totally free from artificial colours and flavours. We only tried the Smooth Vanilla variety but thought it was great. Learn more and buy it here - tesco.com
