3 of the best UK supermarkets for keto products

Published by Finn Hayden

If you're following a keto diet, then taking a trip to the supermarket can be quite a stressful experience - following a keto diet requires you to reduce your intake of carbs and sugar, and up your intake of fats and protein, which means you need specific kinds of foods in your diet. Sadly, that can be the exact opposite type of foods that you find when you visit the supermarket. Why does Lidl put the bakery so close to the door? Those croissants always get me.

Some people might think that they'd need to visit specialist health shops in order to buy items that fit the keto diet, but we're lucky here in the UK that we have a number of supermarkets which are great for keto food products. We wanted to round up 3 of the best UK supermarkets you can visit if you're looking to stock up on keto foods, let's get into it:

Waitrose

I'd probably say that of all the supermarkets I visited, Waitrose had the best selection of keto-friendly products. For starters, it's great for low carb bread - you can find the LivLife bread stocked in most Waitrose stores, which is a great keto-friendly product.

Waitrose is also good for low sugar cereals and granola, and stocks popular products like the Lizi's low sugar granola (which I love).

And it's not just in-store that Waitrose is great for keto products - Waitrose is one of the only UK supermarkets that has a dedicated keto section on its website which is really useful.

Waitrose is also great for high quality meat and fish, which will likely be the cornerstone of your keto diet.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's gets a mention because it's probably the best supermarket for low carb cereal - we found a really great selection of high protein, low carb cereals at our local big Sainsbury's, and also Sainsbury's is the only major retailer currently stocking Surreal cereal (a brand we featured in our high protein cereal guide), and even had a whole setup dedicated to the Surreal brand on the shelves:

The Sainsbury's website doesn't have a dedicated keto section like Waitrose does, but it does have a useful 'carb alternatives' section which lists carb free and low carb products.

Also, Sainsbury's has a pretty great selection of low carb bread - the Hi-Lo brand of bread (which contains 65% less carbs than white bread) is stocked in a number of Sainsbury's stores and is also available to buy via the website.

Ocado

Ocado might be an online supermarket, but that doesn't change the fact that it's really excellent for keto-friendly food products. As with Waitrose, there's a 'Keto' section on the Ocado website which lists more than 190 products currently.

We found some really interesting low carb food products listed on the Ocado website that we couldn't find in any other supermarket, including the Slim Pasta that we listed in our low carb pasta guide, and the Skinny Lager that we included in our low carb beer guide.

If you're following a keto diet then Ocado is a great supermarket to order from.

Finding keto-friendly products in the UK might seem daunting, but if you visit these 3 supermarkets then you're basically guaranteed to find a good selection of food products to fit your diet.
