The best climbing chalk that you can buy in the UK (top 5)

Published by Finn Hayden

In recent years a number of excellent climbing documentaries have been released which have highlighted how fun and exciting the sport is. Consequently, lots of people have decided to get involved in climbing.

Although you might not want to do something on the level of Alex Honnold, climbing can be a great activity to start as not only is it fun, but it's also a good workout.

If you want to get started with climbing then you'll need a good climbing chalk so you don't lose your grip. We thought it would be useful to round up the best climbing chalk that you can buy, let's get into it:

FrictionLabs Bam Bam

The Bam Bam chalk from FrictionLabs is definitely on the pricier side, but it's worth it if you want premium climbing chalk. Bam Bam is the chunkiest climbing chalk from FrictionLabs, but that's why we love it - if you're midway through a climb and you want to top-up your chalk, chunky is best. All of the climbing chalk from FrictionLab is high quality and free from fillers or other rubbish. Learn more and buy it here - elitegymnastics.co.uk

Rock Technologies Liquid Chalk

Some climbers will prefer to use liquid chalk over normal chalk as it feels a bit nicer on the hands, and it's also useful in situations where you can't let go. We think the liquid chalk from Rock Technologies is the best you can buy. It contains alcohol so it can be a bit drying for some people, but if your skin is ok with alcohol then you'll have no issues with this chalk. It dries very quickly, allowing you to get on with your climbing. Learn more and buy it here - gooutdoors.co.uk

Camp chalk block

The Camp chalk block is pretty straightforward, but having a block of chalk actually has a lot of advantages. Often if your chalk is 100% powder then it can make a lot of mess when you dive your hand into your bag to top up your chalk on your hands, but with a block, there tends to be a lot less mess. You'll need to crumble up the block a bit before you can use it, but this is really easy to do. We picked up this Camp chalk block for £2 which is an absolute bargain, and it lasted us for months. Moon Dust

The Moon Dust climbing chalk comes quite chunky in the bag, but can be easily broken up if you want it to be finer. It's pure magnesium and it contains no additives or drying agents so your hands don't get all horrible and dry, plus the bags it comes in are 100% recyclable. Metolius Super Chalk

The Metolius brand has been making climbing chalk for more than 20 years, and it really shows - the bag is very simple in design and the packaging is eco-friendly, but the chalk itself is extremely high quality. It's a huge brand in America and is growing in popularity here in the UK too. The chalk is 100% Magnesium Carbonate, and the texture is perfect. It really helps with sweat absorption and increased friction. Learn more and buy it here - amazon.co.uk
