Since I bought my air fryer, I find myself using my oven less and less often. If I can cook something in the air fryer instead of the oven, I'll do it. I save time and effort, so it's a total no-brainer.

Recently, I brought home a nice garlic bread from M&S (to accompany a pasta dish) and without hesitation, I reached for the air fryer. But at the last minute, I decided to check the back of the packet to see if it had any instructions for air fryer cooking, and I was surprised to see that there wasn't.
Luckily I'm a bit of an air fryer expert these days, so I decided to just stick the garlic bread in my air fryer with settings that I thought would work, and it turned out pretty well:

So yes, you can cook a garlic bread in an air fryer. But here are some more specific tips that'll help you cook the garlic bread properly:

  • Don't do it from frozen - anyone with an air fryer will already know that they're not great at cooking things from frozen, and the same goes for garlic bread. I know lots of people like to keep garlic bread in the freezer, so if you're planning to cook it in the air fryer just make sure you give it time to thaw

  • Ignore the oven heating instructions on the packaging - you'd think that following the oven cooking details on the packaging would give you a rough indication of how to cook the garlic bread in an air fryer, but I've not found that to be the case. For starters, the garlic bread will cook quicker in an air fryer than in a traditional oven, so you'll want to reduce the time by at least 30%. The same goes for the temperature recommendation - the packaging of my M&S garlic bread recommended cooking at a temperature of 200c in an electric oven, and I could understand if people thought that would translate exactly over to an air fryer. But you'll almost certainly burn your garlic bread if you do it that hot in an air fryer. I'd recommend sticking to around the temperature recommendation for a fan oven, which in my case was 180c, so I chose to cook my garlic bread at 185 in the air fryer.

  • Break it in half - this is probably an obvious point for people with smaller air fryers (you have to break the garlic bread in half, otherwise it won't fit!), but even if your air fryer is bigger you should still break the garlic bread in half before cooking it. This just helps the garlic bread to cook properly all the way through.

I hope my short guide helps you cook your garlic bread properly in an air fryer, now enjoy!
