What you didn’t know about Co-op Sticky Toffee Pudding (Is it healthy, Our review & thoughts)

Sticky toffee pudding is one of those classic British puddings that never fails to be comforting. Is it because we all remember it from our school days? On a cold, miserable day, often served with custard, after turkey twisters and chips. The classic healthy and nutritious.

But did you know that the Co-op’s Irresistible Sticky Toffee Pudding has a few secrets that make it stand out on supermarket shelves?

Well, now you do.

Our Review

At first glance, it’s a standard tray pudding. Sitting there on a shelf. Like any other CO-OP product.  But take a closer look at the ingredients, and you start to see why it’s different – and much more delicious.

This pudding is from the company’s premium line, which means this pudding benefits from higher-quality ingredients and more attention to detail than many other ready-made puddings out there. The company say this means careful selection of dates and the balance of muscovado sugar to golden syrup to get the perfect consistency.

The sponge is made with a blend of wheat flour, dates, muscovado sugar, golden syrup, butter, and cream. It is delicate, yet robust enough that it doesn’t go mushy. It’s sweet, fruity and delicious. I believe that it’s the Muscovado sugar that gives the COOP sticky toffee pudding a nuance that elevates this product beyond a simple sticky toffee.

Texture is another area where truely Co-op excels.

The sponge is soft, without turning soggy under the sauce, so every mouthful is satisfying. Unlike some supermarket sticky toffee puddings that we tired, the Co-op version absorbs its toffee sauce perfectly. A comforting, nostalgic treat for anyone craving a proper sticky toffee pudding, with a touch of elegance.

Now what to pair it with!? Vanilla Iced cream, of course! What? Are you tasteless!?

Is Co-op Sticky Toffee Pudding good for you?

In short terms, no. The Co-op Sticky Toffee Pudding is a treat and is rated very poorly in term of nutritional value.

Unless you’ve just run an ultramarathon, keep the portion to a reasonable size.

A quarter (95g) of the 380g pudding has 326 kcal and 12g of fat. It has a whopping 34g of sugar and 0.44g of salt. While it seems like a lot, a can of coke has about 35g of sugar in it. I know which I’d prefer!

Final Thoughts

This is a short – and sweet – article that tries to pay homage to a fantastic example of something that warms my heart when I am feeling down; a classic sticky toffee pudding.

It really isn’t said enough; a sticky toffee pudding is A teir desert, and CO-OP’s is one of the best that we’ve tried. Worthy of it’s own unique article.
