You can literally get anything from a coffee shop these days. There are just about a million milk alternatives, lists of sugar syrups, creams and sprinkles. You’re pretty much able to scale the globe and try the best Coffee from Africa, Columbia or Europe.
You can even get a coffee for your kids!?! Well, it isn’t really coffee but it is called a ‘Babyccino‘. So what is a Babyccino?
A Babyccino is basically a tiny spiced hot chocolate for your kids – it does not contain coffee. The drink is produced by warming milk with cinnamon, cocoa powder and often marshmallows (if they are extra good). It has been created to ensure that you can go to a coffee shop, with your kids, and they can have their own warming drink without needing to have it.
So, how do you make a Babyccino? It is easy:
Warm through the milk in a pan with Cinnamon and Cocoa Powder until the flavours mix. Place into an Espresso cup, garnish with some more cocoa powder and cream, cookies or marshmallows!
This is such a specific request that you may be wondering whether you can get one of these drinks easily – the answer is yes. Costa Coffee regularly offer Babyccinoes but there is some media attention around whether or not this is such a good thing.
Some of the articles are honestly junk – but one raises a good point that the Costa Babyccino contains more sugar than you’d expect. The drink contains a total of 13.7g of sugar per 100ml which, compared to a Fanta (6.9g) or a Dr Pepper (7.2g), is horrendous.
It may be a good idea to make your own at home, or just get the kids milk.
