What flavour is Lucozade Original? We take a close look at this classic glucose drink
Lucozade is one of the most popular energy drinks in the world, and although we really enjoy the taste of the orange Lucozade, there are lots of people who prefer the Original flavour.
But what actually is the Original flavour Lucozade? There is no clear indication on the bottle, so we wanted to try and figure out what the flavour actually is. Let's get into it:
What are the ingredients of Lucozade Original?
We figured that the best place to look when trying to figure out what the flavour of Original Lucozade is would be the ingredients list, but it really doesn't help. The only ingredient related to flavour which is listed is literally just called 'Flavourings', and unlike the Orange flavour of Lucozade which lists orange juice, there is very little else in the ingredients list of the Original Lucozade which gives us any clue as to what the flavour might be.
What does Lucozade say the flavour is?
We hoped that Lucozade might give us a clue as to what the flavour is of the Original Lucozade, but the only information we could find on the official Lucozade website what this:
"........great tasting, classic flavour. Our refreshing Lucozade Energy Original is that classic tasting Lucozade."
So all that Lucozade describes it as is a great-tasting, classic flavour. Not very helpful!
What do other people think the flavour is?
There are lots of forums online which are packed with people trying to figure out what the flavour is of the Original Lucozade - on this Student Room thread, some people mention that it tastes like cough medicine, which is a really good suggestion and would make sense as Lucozade is often given to people who are sick.
But it's a suggestion on this Reddit thread which we think really nailed it - a user mentions that it tastes like Tizer, which is actually pretty accurate. Unlike Lucozade Original, it is pretty widely accepted that Tizer has a citrus taste (it even mentions it on the Tizer Wikipedia page). And because Lucozade Original tastes so similar to Tizer, we're willing to bet that Lucozade Original is supposed to have a citrus flavour too.
Final thoughts - what is the flavour of Original Lucozade?
So based on comparing Lucozade Original to other popular drinks which are open about what flavour they are, we think Lucozade Original has a citrus taste.
