Twinings has long been synonymous with quality teas, and the brand is well known for producing a variety of exceptional teas. When I saw the Twinings Superblends Detox Tea on the shelf at my local Holland and Barrett, I decided to buy it and give it a try for a review. In this review I'll be taking a close look at the Twinings Superblends Detox tea and letting you know what I think of it, let's get into the review:
What's in the Twinings Superblends Detox Tea?
Twinings Superblends Detox Tea boasts a thoughtfully curated blend of ingredients. Fennel is the main ingredient, with this plant representing 20% of what you'll find in each tea bag. The rest is mostly lemon peel (16%), lemongrass (10%), and Burdock Root (10%). Selenium is listed as one of the main ingredients, but it's only 1% of what you'll find in each bag.
Aroma and Flavour
Despite fennel being the main ingredient, it's the lemon from the lemon peel and lemongrass which really comes through for us. The hint of ginger added a pleasant warmth, and the Burdock Root and Spearmint undertones contributed to the complexity of the flavor. The sweet fennel provided a subtle sweetness that rounded off the overall taste. The blend successfully avoided any overpowering elements, resulting in a smooth and enjoyable detox tea.
When brewed with hot water, you get 13.8 µg of Selenium from 1 cup of this detox tea. Studies of Selenium seem to suggest that 4 times this amount can be beneficial, so you won't be getting a huge amount from the Twinings Detox tea.
We paid £2 for a box of 20 of these tea bags, working out to 10p per tea bag. We feel this is very reasonable, especially given that each tea bag comes individually wrapped.
Did I feel detoxed?
It's a pretty subjective question, but after drinking this tea daily for a week, I'd say that I did feel quite detoxed, by which I mean that I felt quite rejuvenated. However, this could have been because I was swapping my daily coffee for this tea, which meant my body had a break from coffee and caffeine for a week.
So overall I'd say that while I really enjoyed the taste of the Twinings Superblends Detox tea, I was a little disappointed by how little Selenium there is in it.
