The new greens powder from Holland and Barrett is not very good
Regular readers will know that I've not been shy when it comes to praising the own-brand products from Holland and Barrett - recently I raved about the Precision Engineered range of supplements from the health giant. Every product in that range is 'Informed Sport' certified, yet still manages to be very affordable.

However, I'm not so impressed with the own-brand greens powder that was recently added to the Holland and Barrett range. I've tried lots of excellent greens powders recently, and I was hoping to update that list with the own-brand greens powder from Holland and Barrett, but after looking at the nutritional data of the new 'Holland & Barrett Energy Superfood Blend', I don't feel like I can do that.
Granted, this is described as an "energy" greens powder, so I'd expect it to be slightly higher in calories compared to other greens powders that I've looked at. But I still don't think this "energy" label excuses some of the nutritional stats that I found.

For starters, the Holland & Barrett Energy Superfood Blend contains 25g of sugar per 100g. So straight off the bat, this greens powder is 25% sugar - I think that's way too high. And it's especially high when you compare that level of sugar to some of the other greens powders we've tried - the DAEMON POWER VIRIDIS greens powder contains 4g of sugar per 100g, and the Huel Daily Greens powder contains 6g of sugar per 100g. Even the Free Soul Greens powder, which I described as being high in sugar, still only contains 17g of sugar per 100g.

I also think that this greens powder from Holland and Barrett should be higher in fibre - it only contains 9.3g of fibre per 100g. Again, comparing it to other greens powders I've tried, DAEMON POWER VIRIDIS contains 32g of fibre per 100g, and Verve V80 contains 18g of fibre per 100g.
It's also weirdly low in other nutrients - the only vitamins and minerals listed on the back of the greens powder from Holland and Barrett are Vitamin B3, B5, and Iron. The Huel Daily Greens powder contains 53mg of Iron per 100g, and most of the other greens powders I've tried contain at least 20 different vitamins and minerals.
I guess all of this wouldn't be such a problem if this greens powder was really cheap like the Precision Engineered products are from Holland and Barrett, but it's not. A 150g bag will set you back £20, and that is really pricey compared to all of the other greens powders I've tried, especially given how little goodness seems to be in each bag.
This is disappointing, but I wouldn't rule out Holland and Barrett returning with the best greens powder on the market in the future, just because that's what they tend to do.
