The best UK supermarket cupcakes (5 tastiest options)

If you're trying to impress, you can't do much better than a box of cupcakes. They're tasty, they're great for sharing, and, let's face it, they're kind of adorable. You've got loads of options when it comes to buying cupcakes, with cupcake shops popping up all over the UK in recent years. However, if you're going to one of these independent places then you'll probably notice that the prices can be pretty steep.

Luckily, most of the major supermarkets in the UK have launched their own cupcake ranges, and although some of them aren't worth your time, there are some which are truly excellent. We thought we'd round up our favourites, let's take a look at the best supermarket cupcakes you can buy in the UK:

Sainsbury's Red Velvet Cupcakes

Sainsbury's are known for having an excellent bakery section in almost every store (even the smaller 'Local' branches), and they're also known for their great range of cakes - including cupcakes. Their Red Velvet Cupcakes are probably our favourite from their entire range.

Tesco Wicked Kitchen Lemon cupcakes

The Tesco 'Wicked' range of vegan products has been a bit of a surprise hit, with many consumers who aren't even vegan enjoying the products. Of all the products in the Wicked range, the Lemon cupcakes seem to have really struck a chord with Tesco customers. Despite being dairy free, they're totally delicious and the lemon flavour is excellent.

Morrisons caterpillar cupcakes

As far as cupcakes for kids go, we think Morrisons come out on top as the best supermarket option. These caterpillar cupcakes from Morrisons are adorably decorated (looking vaguely like another well-known supermarket caterpillar), and they've got a gooey chocolate centre. They're also free from artificial flavours and colours so not filled with rubbish. At £2.35 per pack, they're also very well priced and you can order them on Amazon with next day delivery - amazon.co.uk

Sainsbury's mini chocolate cupcakes

We've already included Sainsbury's in this list, but we did mention that they've got a particularly good range of cakes so they're definitely worthy of a second spot. Their mini chocolate cupcakes are a great option if you're looking for a variety of flavours (5 milk chocolate and 4 white chocolate) and they do taste very good.

M&S Percy Pig party cupcakes

You probably won't be surprised to learn that the M&S cupcakes are the most expensive option we've included in this article, but you always probably won't be surprised to learn that they were our favourites. Admittedly we're big fans of their entire Percy Pig range, so it was no surprise for us to enjoy the Percy Pig cupcakes so much. If you want to give cupcakes as a gift then try these for sure, they'll probably go down well.
