The best supermarket curry you can buy in the UK (Top 5)
Indian curry is one of the most popular takeaway choices in the UK, but as prices increase more and more of us are having to sacrifice our delicious Indian takeaways for something shop-bought. Luckily, almost all of the UK supermarkets offer their own ready-meal take on an Indian curry, and some of them are genuinely very good. We wanted to highlight what we believe to be the best curry ready-meals you can buy from a UK supermarket for 2023, let's get into the guide:
Chicken Tikka Masala curry from Marks & Spencer
Marks & Spencer is generally considered to be one of the best supermarkets in the UK when it comes to their own food ranges, so it's probably no surprise to see their name in this list. Curry enthusiasts might roll their eyes at seeing a Chicken Tikka Masala at the top spot in this list, but trust us when we say this curry is delicately and expertly flavoured, and is well worthy of the top spot. You can also take advantage of the M&S Indian meal deal where you can buy 2 main dishes and 2 sides for £10, which is also available via Ocado. View this curry here - ocado.com

Chicken Tikka Masala by Sainsbury's
Another Chicken Tikka Masala?! This is getting embarrassing. We do have to admit, we're not too adventurous when it comes to our curry selections, but we definitely wouldn't describe this Chicken Tikka Masala from Sainsbury's as boring. It's creamy and has a lovely warm spice to it, plus the pilau rice it comes with is packed with flavour too. It might not be as good as the Tikka Masala from M&S in our humble opinion, but it is slightly cheaper which may sway it for some people. You can also buy it for almost half the price of the Masala from M&S at £2.75, which is very good value. View it here - sainsburys.co.uk

Chicken Jalfrezi by Tesco
A Jalfrezi isn't for everyone as it can be quite hot, but if you can handle the heat then of all the supermarket Jalfrezis out there we'd recommend this one from Tesco. It's definitely got a kick but is by no means ridiculous, and the spicy flavour is delicious. Plus, similar to the Sainsbury's masala, the pilau rice with this curry is excellent. King Prawn Bhuna by Marks & Spencer
Finally something other than chicken, albeit another Marks & Spencer curry. To be honest, we wouldn't rush to get a king prawn curry from any of the other supermarkets because we so often find the prawns to be less than stellar. You really have to take your hat off to M&S when it comes to the quality of their Indian range, and when they say there are 'king prawns' in this curry they really mean it - they're big and delicious. This Bhuna is the hottest curry in our list so definitely not for the faint of heart, but for the curry connoisseur who is looking for a hot delicious meal, this is a winner. Our Best Ever Chicken Tikka Masala curry by Marks & Spencer
Ok, so by this point you've realised 2 things - we love Marks & Spencer curries, and we love Chicken Masala. We've included the 'Best Ever' Chicken Tikka Masala from Marks & Spencer at the end of this article because we think it's a bit of a curveball - it's undoubtedly good, really good actually, but it's pricey. At £6.40 per portion, without any rice included, there's an argument for simply getting a curry from an actual Indian takeaway instead. However, one thing to watch out for with this curry (and with any item from M&S actually) is that they're often in the 'reduced' section and can be picked up for something closer to £3 per portion. That is definitely worth it!

Final thoughts
We love our curry here in the UK, and if you're not wanting to spend the sort of money required for a takeaway then you've got some great ready-meal options from the supermarkets.
