The best places to stay in the North York Moors (Our top choices)

We've written extensively about the national parks of the UK, and we love all of them, but we'd by lying if we didn't have favourites. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park is certainly up there - ideally suited to explore a mix of seaside towns and quiet countryside villages, the national park is one of the best places to visit in the entire country. We wanted to highlight some of our favourite places to stay in this area, let's get into the iist:
High Grundon Holiday Cottages, Thornton Le Dale
This collection of old farm buildings has been converted into beautiful cottages, ideal for a family getaway. Located just a mile and a half outside of Thornton Le Dale, these cottages are in an ideal location for anyone looking to enjoy some of the best of what the North York Moors have to offer. Dalby Forest is nearby, as are towns such as Scarborough and Whitby if you're looking for a bit of old-school seaside fun. Book your stay here - highgrundoncottages.com

Waddleduck Cottages, Whitby
Whitby is great fun, but it can feel a little hectic at times. This is particularly true if you choose to stay in the town alongside the pubs and beachgoers. Luckily, you've got some great accommodation options just outside Whitby, with our favourite being Waddleduck Cottage. Aside from having an excellent name, this property also overlooks the River Esk and is great for walks along the river. You're also only a short walk from Whitby itself. Westerly Lake
If you're looking for something a little bit more outdoors-y, then Westerly Lake is an excellent option. Located just 7 miles outside of York, this caravan park boasts lovely lakeside views and a fishery for any budding anglers. It's also an adult only location and dogs aren't allowed either, so you're guaranteed peace and quiet during your stay. Learn more and book your stay here - westerlylake.co.uk

The Lion Inn, Blakely Ridge
This 16th century building in Blakely Ridge is now a popular Inn, serving up delicious no-nonsense meals and offering visitors a cosy stay. Owned and run by the Crossland family since 1980, the Lion Inn is located at the highest point of the North York Moors National Park, at an elevation of more than 1300 feet. This allows visitors to enjoy views over the valleys of Rosedale and Farndale during their stay. Learn more and book your stay here - lionblakey.co.uk

The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel
This property might have a bit of a scary name, but trust us - it is as far away from a dungeon as you can imagine! This lovely hotel in the Langdale Valley is an ideal base for anyone who is looking to explore the Lake District or hop onto The Cumbria Way. Originally built as a farm and Inn in the 19th century, the building is charming and has been run by the same family since 1983. Learn more and book your stay here - odg.co.uk
