M&S is an excellent supermarket for gin

Published by Finn Hayden

Here in the UK it definitely feels like summer is on our doorstep, and I've decided that my drink for this summer is going to be a G&T. I love the taste and it's generally pretty low in calories and carbs, which suits me perfectly.

I've been sampling lots of excellent gins recently, and I've also sampled many lovely own-brand supermarket gins, including the gins from both Lidl and Aldi. But of all the supermarket gin ranges that I've sampled recently, I would say that the M&S gin range is by far the best.

It's worth saying from the get-go that none of the gins in the M&S range have won any prestigious awards as the Lidl and Aldi gins have done (both of those supermarkets have picked up medals at the World Gin Awards in recent years), but I still think the M&S gin range is very good.

For starters, the classic distilled London Dry gin from M&S is great - it's made from 7 botanicals and spices, including Grapefruit Oil (which really comes through) and Orris Root. A 70cl bottle costs £20, which for a premium gin is pretty cheap.

If you want a version of this gin with a bit more fruity flavour, there's a seville orange variety and a pink grapefruit variety.

The Old Tom gin from M&S is produced by Warner's Distillery based in Northamptonshire. The team there produces small batches of artisan gin exclusively for M&S. I really loved this gin - it's definitely premium but only costs £30 for a 700ml bottle. It has citrus notes, and is made with hand-picked lavender.
If you want a proper fruit gin and not just something with fruity notes, then the 16 Acres berry gin from M&S is worth a look. It's made in small batches from a mix of raspberries, blackcurrants, and blackberries. It's very fruity and delicious. There's also a London dry 16 Acres gin from M&S which is made with citrus and rosemary.

As you can see, if you're looking for a great mix of supermarket own-brand gins, M&S has to be one of the best places to head to. The fact that you can buy any of these gins for under £30 is also a major draw.
If you've tried any of these gins from M&S, let us know your thoughts in the comments!
