Microwave baked potatoes are amazing (4 best to buy)

Published by Finn Hayden

I love baked potatoes - they’re healthy, delicious, and versatile. Until recently, for me the only downside to baked potatoes was how long they took to make. I’d peel the potatoes, brush them with some oil, and put them in the oven for about 50 minutes. Not exactly a quick snack.

But that all changed when I discovered microwave baked potatoes. For those that don’t know, there’s nothing artificial or fake about microwave baked potatoes - they’re literally just baked potatoes that have been cooked then frozen, and can then be recooked in about 5 minutes in the microwave. They’re extremely handy for people who loved baked potatoes like I do.

I’ve now tried quite a few different brands of microwave baked potatoes, and although I expected them all to taste pretty much the same, I actually feel like the quality varied quite a bit. Here are the 4 best microwave potato brands I’ve tried:

Bannisters

If I had to choose 1 microwave baked potato brand to eat for the rest of time, it would be Bannisters. These potatoes genuinely taste better than any others I’ve ever had, which blows my mind because I just stick them in the microwave for around 5 minutes and they’re ready. They’re British potatoes and cooked with olive oil, but I think what really makes them special is that they’re baked in the traditional ovens that Bannisters has on their Yorkshire farm. M&S baked jacket potatoes

Regular readers won’t be surprised to see M&S featured in this guide, because I’m not shy in saying that I think, for the most part, the M&S food products are excellent. These microwave baked potatoes are no exception - these are British potatoes that are cooked with olive oil. They’ve got a lovely skin and they’re very fluffy on the inside. McCain jacket potatoes

Most people will be familiar with the McCain brand, but most people will associate the brand with chips. But given that McCain are potato specialists, I shouldn’t be surprised that they do great microwave baked potatoes too. These potatoes are slowly baked to make them as fluffy as possible, and of course they’re British potatoes. Learn more and buy them here -

Lidl Harvest Basket baked potatoes

In terms of price, these microwave baked potatoes from Lidl were the cheapest we could find at under £2 per box. They’re still great quality though - they’re British potatoes and tasted very nice. They’re slightly smaller than most of the other baked potatoes in this guide but that’s not really an issue for me. These can only be bought in-store.
