Lidl Red Wines | We tried some, and here are the ones we think best!

The last thing you'd expect from budget supermarkets, like Lidl and Aldi, is superb wine. Well, if that was on your bingo card, then you're the luck winner of a self-aggrandising slap on the back! Well done.

We've already written about the best Aldi White and Red wines, so today is a chance to review some of the best wines we tried in Lidl. This, is maybe the best article we've ever written - at least the best to research.

If you're a lover of wine, but don't want to pay more than £10 for it, you should try these wines from Lidl.

Lidl Deluxe - Shiraz (£6.99)

Lidl’s Deluxe Barossa Valley Shiraz is everything you’d want from an Aussie red – bold, juicy, and unapologetically full of flavour. Pour a glass and you’re greeted with a gorgeous pomegranate hue and aromas of dark fruit and leather that hit you right away. On the palate, it’s a beautiful mix of ripe plum, cherry, and blackberry, layered with hints of oaky chocolate, vanilla, and just a touch of peppery spice.

This is a wine with real character – full-bodied yet balanced, with enough depth to keep each sip interesting. The finish is smooth, with a subtle warmth that makes it perfect for cosy evenings. Pair it with pepper-crusted steaks, mushroom-loaded burgers, or even roast game, and you’ll be in for a treat.

Rated around 3.7–3.8 by the community and sitting in the top 4% of Barossa wines, this bottle delivers serious value and classic Barossa richness at Lidl prices.

Lidl Deluxe - Pinotage (£6.99)

Pinotage might not always steal the spotlight, but Lidl’s Deluxe South African Pinotage is a hidden gem worth hunting down... even if it’s not listed on their website.

The wine is sourced from the Coastal Region with a 14% ABV, it’s got all the hallmarks of a good Pinotage: a deep colour, blackcurrant on the nose, and earthy mushroom. A really rich combination.

On the palate, it’s surprisingly smooth - much silkier than many Pinotages in this price bracket or available in Aldi -  with ripe black fruit leading the way and less oak influence than you might expect.

It’s officially labelled medium-bodied, but it drinks more like a medium-to-full, giving it a richness that feels far more premium than its price tag. This is a classic Lidl wine, punching well above it's weight.

At just £6.99 (or as low as £4.71 on promotion), this Fairtrade-friendly bottle is proof that great value and quality can coexist. A perfect winter red and an absolute steal for the price.

Available in store - if you're lucky!

Lidl Deluxe - Shiraz from the Barossa Valley (£7.79)

Lidl’s Deluxe Barossa Valley Shiraz is an Aussie delight that punches well above its price tag. Another Lidl smasher.

From the moment you pour it, that deep pomegranate hue hints at what’s to come, big, bold flavours of juicy plum, ripe blackberry, and a little cherry sweetness. Then comes the good stuff: a swirl of oaky chocolate, soft vanilla, and just enough peppery spice to keep things exciting.

It’s full-bodied with a satisfying richness, balanced acidity, and silky structure that makes every sip feel a little indulgent. Especially for it's price. On the nose: Think dark fruit and a touch of leather and classic Barossa charm in a glass.

Perfect with pepper-crusted steak, mushroom-topped burgers, or even a Sunday roast, this Shiraz has earned its 3.7–3.8 community rating and then some. Big flavours, smooth finish, and an unbeatable price... what’s not to love? If you like your reds bold and warming, this is your new weeknight hero.

Deluxe Reserva Privada Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Lidl’s Deluxe Reserva Privada Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is a little gem from Chile’s Central Valley -and at this price - it’s a steal!

Absolutely bursting with juicy red cherries, ripe blackcurrants, and a whisper of black cherry sweetness, it’s got that classic Cab character but with an easy-going charm. Very easy to drink. There’s a lovely touch of oak, soft vanilla, and just enough chocolatey depth to make you go back for one more sip

Full-bodied yet smooth, its silky tannins make it incredibly drinkable, with no harsh bite, just a gentle hug of flavour. It’s not overly acidic, so it’s perfect for pairing with hearty foods: think juicy cheeseburgers, roast lamb, or rich game.

At around 3.7–3.8 stars from the community, it’s a solid crowd-pleaser.  Approachable, satisfying, and with enough depth to feel like a treat. If you love value, flavour, and a bit of Chilean sunshine in your glass, this one’s for you!

For some reason, this wine is also not available on their website, but it is available instore (again, if you're lucky).
