Is it worth buying Harry’s? We take a look at this popular razor subscription

Whenever we see a product being recommended on lots of podcasts, we’re usually quite suspicious - typically it means that the product has a lucrative affiliate program, and that the podcast recommending the product will receive a hefty commission when a listener buys it.
We’ve written about a number of these products, from Athletic Greens to ice baths. Harry’s is another brand which is frequently recommended by podcasts, but there is something which seems a bit different about Harry’s, as we constantly here about how great it is to get razors every month from this brand. We wanted to take a close look qt Harry’s to see if it’s actually worth buying from this brand and signing up to the subscription, let’s get into it:
What makes Harry’s razors so different?
The one thing we noticed about Harry’s is that they make a big deal about the fact that their products are made in Germany. This is a marketing tactic that other German brands such as Audi have really leaned into, as in many parts of the world the Germans are associated with efficiency and good manufacturing.

How much do Harry’s razors cost and how does the subscription work?
It’s the subscription model which is the major USP of Harry’s, and it’s actually pretty reasonably priced - a subscription will cost you £1.75 per blade.
One of the big appeals of Harry’s is that you can get a trial week subscription. This costs just £3.95 and you get a razor and a shave gel, which is good value.
Harry’s claims that their prices are 37% cheaper when compared to Gillette ProGlide subscription.
There is a lot of flexibility with the Harry’s subscription, especially compared to the Gillette ProGlide subscription.
Gillette also offers a free trial, and all you need to pay for is the post and package which is also £3.95. For this free trial, Gillette will send you a razor and a shave gel as Harry’s will, but you’ll get a slightly bigger shaving gel from Gillette (75ml versus the 60ml shaving gel you get from Harry’s)
With the Gillette ProGlide subscription, subscribers get 15% off blades with free delivery. You also get frequent mystery gifts from Gillette, which is actually a really nice touch. These gifts are usually around £6 in value and could be anything from shave gel to shaving balm.
When it comes to changing your subscription, we think you get a lot more flexibility with Harry’s than you do with Gillette. You can delay your Gillette shipment, but only by up to 2 months.
You can also get next day delivery with Harry’s, which isn’t something that is offered by Gillette currently. You do need to pay an extra £5.95 to get next day delivery from Harry’s, but it’s great to have the option.
What’s Harry’s really pushes is how good the price is, and it’s definitely a good price for blades from the brand - if you order 4 blades then it works out to just £2.25 each. However, if you order 4 Mach3 blades from Gillette it’ll cost you just 8.99, £1 less than Harry’s. And if you’re subscribed to Gillette then the 4 Mach3 blades will cost you just £7.64. The team at Harry’s would argue that their blades are better than the Mach3 blades, but the Mach3 blades are still pretty good - each Mach3 cartridge comes with the Lubrastrip and the Mach3 blades are among the most popular in the world.
However, the Mach3 only features 3 blades. Harry’s only does one type of blade which has 5 separate blades, and still only costs £2.25 each when you order a 4 pack. If you compare that price to the 5 blade cartridge from Gillette, called the Fusion5, Harry’s is quite a bit cheaper than Gillette. Even if you subscribe to Gillette to receive the Fusion5 blades, you’ll be paying £1 more per delivery with Gillette than you will with Harry’s.
