I (mostly) love my NETTA 12L dehumidifier – full review

There is 1 room in my flat that has always felt a bit colder than the other rooms, and I've always suspected that the humidity levels in there are a bit higher than elsewhere in the flat. Well, turns out I was right. I bought myself the Netta 12L Low Energy dehumidifier from Amazon, and immediately I found measuring the humidity levels to be quite eye-opening, not just in the room that I was most worried about, but even throughout the rest of the flat.
I spent quite a bit of time researching which dehumidifier to buy, and settled on the NETTA 12L. I've mostly been really impressed with it and thought it would be useful to publish a detailed review of what I like about it and what I don't like about it. Let's take a look:
Positives
The first thing I'll say is that the NETTA 12L dehumidifier has definitely reduced the humidity levels in my flat quite significantly. I've had the machine running throughout the day for around a week, and the humidity levels in the room I was worried about have dropped from over 80% to under 60%.

I really like how simple the NETTA 12L dehumidifier is to operate, but it still has a number of useful settings. For most of the week when the machine has been in my trouble room, I've had it on 'automatic', which basically means you turn it on and let it do its thing to reduce the humidity levels as much as possible. However, when I've moved it into other parts of my flat, I've made use of the 'manual' settings. This allows me to set a desired level of humidity in the room, so that it doesn't get too dry. It's extremely simple to change this setting (there are only 3 buttons on the front of the machine), and I didn't even have to read the manual to figure it out.

It also only has 2 fan speeds, but again this was totally fine with me. Basically it's got a fast speed and a slow speed, with the obvious point being that the fast speed will lower the humidity levels faster. It's very easy to change the speed if you're not wanting to use as much energy or you want the humidity levels to reduce slowly.

Lastly, I thought the price was very reasonable - I got it for £99, but I saw a number of 12L dehumidifiers for as much as £150.
Negatives
I'm mostly very happy with my NETTA 12L Low Energy dehumidifier, but there are a few negatives that I do have to point out. For starters, it's quite loud, even when the fan is on the slower setting. This wasn't an issue when I was leaving the dehumidifier in the back room, but as soon as I brought it into the same room I was working in, I really noticed the noise. I had planned to leave this on while my child was asleep, but I'm not sure I'll be doing that as it'll almost certainly keep them awake. The Amazon description said the noise level was less than 55db, but I'm not sure if that's correct (I didn't measure it).

The other slight annoyance is emptying the water out of the machine - 12L is a good capacity and I can leave it running all day without needing to empty it. And usefully, the NETTA 12L Low Energy dehumidifier will turn itself off as soon as the interior tray fills with water, so I don't have to worry about overflowing or anything like that. But when it comes to emptying the machine, it all feels a little bit....clunky. The tray comes out sort of smoothly, and then it's all rattly when I'm pouring the water down the sink. Again, this is a minor complaint but it's still something that I find a bit disappointing.

Also, if I'm being really picky then I thought that at 11kg, it's quite clunky. Plus, the cord is quite short, which is a little annoying if you want to move it around (but that's easily solved by getting an extension cord).
Final thoughts
Overall, I'm really happy with my NETTA 12L low energy dehumidifier. It has worked fantastically to reduce the humidity in my flat and I bought it for under £100. However, it's a little noisy which means I won't be using it in my kid's room.
