Good Inexpensive Red Wines (from Supermarkets)

Wine in the UK has improved over the past few years. Back in the day, cheap red wines in supermarkets were the surplus batches of stock that the French, Spanish or Portuguese wouldn't drink. Either that, it was a blend of surplus wines from multiple vineyards, sometimes from different countries, brought under a generic brand.

It's entirely possible now to buy really good inexpensive red wines from supermarkets - but which ones are worth trying? We've put together a list for you.

ALDI Toro Loco (£5.29)

Toro Loco Tempranillo (2018) is an Aldi gem that proves great wine without the huge price tag At just £5.29, this Spanish red is smooth, fruity, and wonderfully easy to drink. A cheap wine, that is still delicious.

Expect notes of dark berries, cherry, vanilla, pepper, and a subtle spice that makes it versatile with BBQs, pasta, or simply sipping in the garden.

Award-winning and full of character, it’s a bargain bottle that holds its own against wines twice the price. An inexpensive wine, with big flavours.
