Buying coffee creamer in the UK – 5 options to try for a creamier coffee
If you've ever watched an American movie or tv show and heard one of the characters talking about coffee creamer, you might be a little confused. It's not a product that you might have seen on UK supermarket shelves, and it also sounds a bit weird - don't Americans use milk in their coffee like we do?
The truth is that you can buy coffee creamer in the UK, and you can also buy some alternatives which basically do the exact same thing, but they're not called coffee creamer. Let's take a look at your options:
Coffee Mate
When most people in America talk about coffee creamer, what they're actually talking about is Coffee Mate. This is a product from Nestle which is supposed to make your coffee taste creamier, and is what a lot of people in America use instead of milk to give their coffee a creamier taste. What you might be even more surprised to learn is that this product is readily available here in the UK. We've seen it stocked in almost every major supermarket, from Tesco to Sainsbury's. If you're looking for the quintessential coffee creamer, then Coffee Mate is your best option.
Other options
We'd say that Coffee Mate is the only "true" coffee creamer you can readily buy in the UK, but there are lots of alternative products which, despite not being called coffee creamer, basically do the same thing. Here are a couple you can try:
Coffee Whitener by Sainsbury's
Coffee whitener is another name for coffee creamer, so any products you see listed as coffee whitener will essentially do the same thing as a product like Coffee mate. This Coffee Whitener by Sainsbury's will give your coffee the same creaminess as coffee creamer, and is actually a great alternative. Learn more and buy it here - sainsburys.co.uk
Asda Skimmed Milk Powder
What we find a little confusing about some of the other UK supermarkets such as Asda is that although this product is clearly supposed to be a coffee creamer type product, they'll name it something like "skimmed milk powder". All this does is make it harder for people who want a coffee creamer in the UK to find it! We have to admit though, this product from Asda is actually pretty great, and it definitely gives coffee the creaminess that you get from Coffee mate. Learn more and buy it here - groceries.asda.com
Mokate Coffee Whitener
We found this coffee whitener from Mokate in our local Iceland supermarket, but we've also seen it available to buy via Amazon and via the Mokate website. This definitely isn't as nice as Coffee Mate, but it does still give your coffee a creamier taste. Learn more and buy it here - iceland.co.uk
Coffee Whitener by Cafe Classic
Another option that we found in our local Home Bargains store is this Coffee Whitener by the Cafe Classic brand. The cappuccino sachets are the most popular product from the Cafe Classic brand by quite a distance, but we have to say that this Coffee Whitener was really good. It was also very cheap - we picked up a 400g tub for £1. The ingredients are almost exactly the same as Coffee Mate, and the resulting coffee had a similar creaminess. Your best place to buy this is at a Home Bargains near you.
Hopefully, this guide proves that you can buy coffee creamer here in the UK. Let us know if you've tried any of these products, of if you have any other similar articles that you'd like us to write.
