I tasted the best Aldi white wines, and this is what I thought!
I'm not a wine expert. I am just like you, and I love to drink wine - a normal lover of wine. That may make me just the person to be writing this article; in the same way why Rory Sutherland suggests that we should never ask a car expert which is the best car to buy.
Sometimes, if you know to much, you overlook the things that make the experience great for the average person.
Wine is one of those things that may be better reviewed by an amateur, rather than an expert.
Moving on. Aldi hit the spot light for having exceptional wines at a reasonable price. Since my weekly shop is at Aldi, I thought i'd write down my thoughts while trying each wine.
Before we begin, Gin Drinker too? We've also taken the time to review the best gin's from Aldi just incase you want to read that next!
Costieres De Nimes - (£7.99)
"Costières de Nîmes," a white wine produced by Château de Nîmes. It is an Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) wine, meaning it comes from a specific region in southern France - this region produces some exceptional wines.
This wine has a rich and aromatic nose that smells sweet and floral, some citrus, and lots of fruity flavours. It's very easy drinking!
More info on this wine you can find it here.

Baron Amarillo - White Island Rosé (£6.99)
Correct - it's not a white - but let me explain. Personally, I'm not a rose lover. It's often too sweet, and I prefer the crispness from a great white. So, why is this included in the listing? White island has a lovely crisp and refreshing nip that is more commonly associated with a white wine, but also enjoys a lovely fruiness typical of Rose.
This is not white, but well worth a try if you're a white wine lover. It's really that good!
Vibrant and pink with a touch of white pepper, cherries and strawberries.
For some reason, it's not listed on the Aldo website, so here is the link elsewhere.

Freeman's Bay - Sauvignon Blanc
Freeman’s Bay is one of Aldi’s more popular entry-level Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. From New Zealand’s renowned wine-producing region, it's a heavyweight wine, with a lightweight price tag.
It’s consistently featured in respected wine competitions. The 2023 vintage scored 86 points, earning a Silver medal at the London Wine Competition
The wine is crisp, sweet but floral. It's a superb wine, and one of the best wines Aldi has to offer.

Freeman's Bay - Marlborough Savignon Blanc (£9.96)
This wine from Freeman's Bay is a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - the signature white wine of New Zealand’s Marlborough region, renowned for its aromatic expression, lively acidity, and dependable style.
This wine delivers! It was as expected. Brigh, lively and crisp. Lots of citrus notes and would be fantastic with some fish.
For just under £10, this is a steal.
More information, you can see the wine on the Aldi website.

Final Thoughts
All of the wines that I have tried in Aldi have been at least a 7/10. For the prices and the quality, there are a few other places that I'd buy wine. Long gone are the days when supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl have cheap rubbish to sell - these days, the wine is amazing.
