5 weed killers we’ve tried that actually work

Published by Finn Hayden

Weeds can pop up just about anywhere around the outside of your home, whether it be on the drive, on the patio, or right on your lawn.

Although some people don't mind weeds growing around their homes, we understand why so many people want to get rid of them - they're not exactly pretty. Luckily, there are lots of effective weed killer options out there which can make light work of weeds with minimal effort. We wanted to highlight the best weed killer that you can buy in the UK, based on our personal experiences and third-party reviews. Let's get into it:

Roundup speed ultra

Roundup is a well-known weed killer brand, and the range of products from this brand is extensive. Of all the Roundup products we've tried, we think the Speed Ultra Weedkiller is the best. This is a multi-purpose weedkiller which will work fast and deal with just about everything. Within an hour of use you can expect to see results. This spray is ideal for use around paths, drives, patios, but you can also use it around roses, ornamental shrubs and trees. Better yet, areas where you've used this spray can be areas can be re-planted or re-seeded 1 day after you've used the spray, as no residue is left. Resolva lawn weedkiller extra

This weed killer spray from Resolva is specifically designed to deal with broad leaved weeds on lawns. This includes everything from Daisies to deadnettle. The spray is designed to kill the weeds, but be totally fine for the lawn. It's totally free from glyphosate and is very safe for use on your lawn. It could take a couple of weeks for the weeds to die off, but it'll happen eventually. We're really impressed with this spray, and if you want a weed killer which will be tough on weeds but won't damage your precious lawn, this is it. Learn more and buy it here -

This weed killer from Weedol is great because not only does it kill existing weeds, but it also prevents new weeds from growing. When you use this spray, it creates an invisible barrier which prevents new weeds from being able to grow. You'll be free of new weeds for up to 3 months, making this a very cost effective product too. The spray is ideal for use on outdoor paths, drives, and patios. The spray degrades naturally when it hits the soil, so no residue is left. Overall, this is a an excellent weed killer product, learn more and buy it here -

Asda advanced weedkiller

Not many of the UK supermarkets produce an own-brand weed killer, but you can buy one from Asda, and we think it's pretty excellent. It's not quite as long-lasting as some of the other options we've included in this list, but it works very quickly and is still effective, even for deep rooted weeds. This spray will work on annual and perennial weeds, including grasses, docks, nettles, and dandelions. As soon as it hits the soil, the formula is inactivated immediately as soon as it hits the soil, where it breaks down naturally. We're impressed with this as a low-cost weed killer (it's less than £3 per bottle). Learn more and buy it here -

Tesco fast acting weedkiller

Another supermarket which produces an own-brand weed killer is Tesco. This product is labelled as fast acting, and it certainly is - you can expect to see the weeds withering within an hour, and disintegrating after a day. It won't necessarily help to prevent future weeds, but if they do sprout up you can just give them another spray. And at just £4 per bottle, we think that's perfectly reasonable.
