Best vegan/vegetarian places to stay in the UK (hotels and B&Bs) – 2022 guide

More people than ever are switching to a vegan or vegetarian diet, but so many aspects of society are not catching up with this. For example, most hotels or B&Bs are still woefully lacking when it comes to vegan and vegetarian options for breakfast - recently we sat down at a hotel and the only vegetarian option was scrambled eggs and beans!

Luckily, there are some excellent vegan & vegetarian accommodation options here in the UK, and we wanted to highlight the best of them. If you're looking for vegan & vegetarian accommodation from around the world then you can check out VeggieHotels, an excellent resource.

Let's get into our favourite UK options:

Goats & Oats at Garsdale - best for vegan delights in the heart of the Dales

This is a beautiful bed and breakfast that's a converted barn set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park - you've literally got the Pennine Bridleway 30 metres from the front door! All of the food that you'll be served during your stay is 100% plant-based, and this includes treats such as sausage rolls, rock cakes, and even vegan Cornish pasties! There is also plant-based milk (Soya, Oat, and Almond) as well as vegan pancakes (drool). There are 3 rooms to stay in, each with coffee and tea facilities as well as a large 43" Smart TV.

We'd highly recommend a stay at Goats & Oats, book yourself a room here - thegarsdale.com

The Control Tower - best for a uniquely cool vegetarian B&B

Look at that building! The Control Tower is a B&B based on the former RAF North Creake Airfield, and it is seriously cool. It's in Norfolk, an area we've written a few guides about as we're big fans of King's Lynn and Hunstanton. But the owners, Claire & Nigel, haven't just set up a B&B in this building because they thought it was cool - it's clear that they have a passion for the history not just of the building, but of Britain, and this oozes from them (we recommend you listen to this podcast where they're interviewed). Now let's talk about the vegetarian stuff - the breakfast is all vegetarian, and the owners have placed an emphasis on using ingredients sourced from local suppliers where possible.

If you're looking for a vegetarian B&B with oodles of style and a really cool history, look no further! Book your room here - controltowerstays.com

Tidmoor Farm - best for a vegetarian B&B eco-home with incredible walks on the doorstep

If your idea of the perfect getaway involves lots of amazing walks and tranquility (even better after a handful of vegan CBD gummies or CBD oil), then this adults-only converted farmhouse is an absolute must-visit. Based just 10 minutes from the South West Coastal Path, Tidmoor Farm is surrounded by some of the best things to see and do in the UK. As for their vegetarian focus, the B&B is entirely vegetarian and includes a comprehensive selection of breakfast choices. Homemade vegetarian energy balls are also available to take with you on any of the long walks you'll inevitably end up on.

Kings Reach Bed & Breakfast - A lovely B&B situated right on the edge of Kilmartin Glen

This B&B based in Argyll, Scotland is ideal for stunning views and tranquility. Kilmartin Glen is an incredible area of monuments and ruins, and this B&B is located right next to it. The area includes standing stones, carved rock, stone circles, forts, and even castles, so if your idea of a good day is wandering around an area like this then Kings Reach is an ideal place to stay. The B&B itself is totally vegan and the breakfasts are 100% plant-based. Owners Sean and Sara also love the This Isn't Bacon as much as we do and serve it with breakfast, which is as good a reason as any to stay here!

Fern Tor - A guest house so remote you can't even find it on a sat nav!

For many of us, the ideal getaway is remote and peaceful. If this is your idea of heaven then look no further than Fern Tor, a vegan/vegetarian guest house based on 12 acres of stunning countryside. You're also only a stone's throw from the North Devon Coast (and towns like Braunton), where you can walk along beautiful beaches and enjoy the fresh sea air. This is properly animal-friendly accommodation, even to the extent that all cleaning products used are animal friendly, and there are no feathers used in any of the bedding. The FernBocker Glory breakfast is an absolute must-try!

Sandburne - An 18th century vegetarian B&B which retains a historical charm

The Sandburne guest house in Keswick was originally built in the late 18th century, and although it has been renovated to include more modern facilities, the building retains many historical elements. Interestingly, the building was also once home to Donald Watson who founded the Vegan Society, so it doesn't really get much more vegetarian-friendly than that! Breakfast is packed with delicious vegetarian and vegan staples such as avocado on toast (always locally made or homemade), and you can eat your breakfast as you enjoy the view of the fells in the distance.

Stonewater House - A vegan B&B on the beautiful Isle of Arran

Any regular readers of our blog will know that we're huge fans of the Isle of Arran - we have a whole guide about the island which you can read here. So it'll be no surprise to see that we've included a B&B situated on the island in this article. Stonewater House is situated in Lamlash Bay and was the first 100% vegan B&B on the island. The owners are Carol and Jules, both of whom are entirely plant-based and passionate about the vegan lifestyle (Carol even completed Dr T. Colin Campbell’s Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate Program at Cornell University). The food is all vegan but is still hearty and will set you up for a day walking around the island - we like the look of the 'The big stonewater breakfast' which includes a whisky cream sauce and homemade vegan haggis, sounds absolutely delicious.
