Best vegan ham – 5 delicious options to try for sandwiches and more

Vegans have more interesting lunch options than ever, and no longer need to restrict themselves to things like cucumber sandwiches - we've written previously about products like delicious vegan cheese and yummy vegan chocolate spread which can both help to make your sandwiches more interesting. But if you'd like to make a sandwich which resembles something that a meat-eater would consume, then vegan ham is also an excellent product to use in your sandwiches.

There is lots of great vegan ham out there at the moment, so much so that we thought it would be useful round up the best vegan ham that you can buy. Let's get into it:

Quorn Yorkshire Ham

We've raved about Quorn so many times previously that you might be bored of hearing how much we love it. Quorn has an excellent range of sausages, but a few of those aren't suitable for vegans. However, this Yorkshire Ham from Quorn is suitable for vegans and is still seriously tasty. Made using mycoprotein like all Quorn products, this vegan ham is perfect for sandwiches and actually tastes quite a bit like real Yorkshire Ham. With 26g of protein per 100g, it's also high in protein. Learn more and buy it here - tesco.com

Wicked meat-free crumbed ham style slices

The Wicked range of vegan products is really great, and we think that the vegan crumbed ham style slices from the brand are one of the best products that they make. Made using wheat and pea protein, these vegan ham slices have a very slight pepper spice to them, and they go amazingly well with coleslaw in a sandwich. 2 slices of this ham contain 7g of protein, which is a great amount and is really useful for vegans who want to get more protein into their diet. Squeaky Bean Applewood smoked ham

If you like the taste of Applewood smoked ham, then this vegan ham from Squeaky Bean is a great option - made using a blend of pea and wheat protein, this vegan ham has that unmistakable smokey taste and a really nice texture too. You could use this in a sandwich, but we actually like to pair it with gravy as part of a roast dinner. As well as being suitable for vegans, this ham is also a good source of Vitamin B12, and is also low in saturated fat. Learn more and buy it here - sainsburys.co.uk

Vbites plant based ham

We've never featured the Vbites plant-based ham in any of our guides, but this brand is actually really good. The plant-based ham from Vbites is really simple, but makes for a really nice alternative to normal ham. What's impressive is that it is made using only natural flavours, and without any artificial colours either. It's made using soya protein and coconut oil, so we'd say the flavour is maybe not as nice as some of the other options we've included in this list, but they still taste good. We also like the protein content - 23g per 100g. Learn more and buy it here - vbites.com

Wheaty vegan smoked ham slices

This is another great option for vegan smoked ham, from a brand called Wheaty. This brand isn't very popular, but we think this product is excellent - made using Seitan and natural beech wood smoke spices, both the texture and flavour of this vegan ham are excellent. It's also great to see that every ingredient used to make this ham is organic. These slices are perfect for a vegan ham sandwich, but you could also cut them up and use them in a salad.
