The best vegan cream cheese you can buy in the UK (top 6)
Cream Cheese is such a useful product to have around the house - we've written previously about how important good cream cheese is for a cheesecake, but the spread can also elevate sandwiches, crackers, and even plain vegetables like carrots.
The issue for people following a vegan diet is that cream cheese is basically their worst nightmare. It's made from pure dairy, so most cream cheese is off the menu for them.
Luckily, there are lots of excellent vegan cream cheese alternatives out there. We thought it would be useful to round up the best vegan cream cheese alternatives that we've bought and tried, let's get into it:
Bonsan Almond Crème
In terms of taste and texture, this Almond Crème from the Bonsan brand really reminded us of cream cheese and we think it makes for a perfect vegan alternative. Made using a selection of very simple ingredients including almond flour, this vegan cream cheese would work perfectly spread over bread or crackers, and would probably work well for a vegan cheesecake too. We're impressed by the Bonsan brand, which we also included in our vegan pesto guide. Learn more and buy this product here - ocado.com

Sheese original vegan cream cheese spread
We've featured the Sheese brand a few times across our guide because we've been really impressed by the vegan cheese from this brand, especially the delicious vegan mozzarella. This vegan cream cheese from the Sheese brand is also excellent - made using coconut oil, this is a really versatile spread which works great with both sweet and savoury dishes. And it's interesting to note that on the front of the packaging, the Sheese team recommends using this spread to make cheesecake. Learn more and buy it here - buteisland.com

Plant based Philadelphia
Philadelphia doesn't need much of an introduction, as most people are familiar with this brand - it's the biggest cream cheese brand in the world. However, many people don't realise that there is actually a vegan version of Philadelphia which is actually really good. Made using a blend of almonds and oats, the texture is great and the taste, albeit a bit different from normal Philadelphia, is actually really good. Learn more and buy it here - tesco.com

Sainsbury's Free From alternative To Cream Cheese
The Sainsbury's Free From range is actually really good, with a number of great products that have had allergens like dairy and gluten removed (which is why we included Sainsbury's in our list of the best gluten free supermarkets). This soft cheese alternative from Sainsbury's really impressed us - made using coconut oil and soya protein, we were really taken aback by how creamy this was, and the texture was excellent. It's actually a really highly-rated product on Sainsbury's website too, with a 4-star rating currently. Learn more and buy it here - sainsburys.co.uk

Violife creamy spread
Violife is another excellent vegan brand that we've featured in quite a few of our vegan cheese guides, including recently in our vegan camembert guide. This Creamy spread from the Violife brand works perfectly as a cream cheese alternative - it's made using coconut oil and it does have a bit of a sweeter taste compared to many of the other products we've included in this guide, but that works perfectly for cheesecake and other sweeter products. Tesco Plant Chef alternative to soft cheese
This is the only vegan cream cheese we've included in this guide which is flavoured, as we wanted to include a little curveball as our last option. It's from the Tesco Plant Chef range and is made using coconut oil. It's also made using garlic and herbs, so if you want a cream cheese alternative which you can spread on crackers, this is ideal.
