5 excellent vacuum storage bags that’ll help you save space

Published by Finn Hayden

Space in your home is such a precious commodity, especially when you've got a family. You'll be amazed at the number of items you can accumulate over the years, and finding a place to store everything can be a real challenge.

The truth is that most of the 'bulk' of bulky clothes and items is actually just air which is trapped between the fabric and the fibres.  This is why using vacuum storage bags for your items is so useful for saving space - by removing all the air, your items will be more compressed and take up less space in your home.

There are lots of options out there when it comes to vacuum storage bags, so we thought it would be useful to round up the best that you can buy. Let's get into it:

Packmate flat & high volume vacuum storage bags

In terms of space-saving, the Packmate flat vacuum storage bags are probably the most impressive that we found. These can reduce the size of your items by up to 75%, which is a huge amount of space to save. The flat bags are best suited for storing clothing, and the high volume vacuum bags are perfect for bulkier items such as duvets and pillows. We love that the bags have a wide opening which makes filling them very easy,  and they also have a waterproof seal. Overall, these vacuum storage bags are very impressive and ideal for a range of uses, so we'd have to say they're the best we tried for this guide. Learn more and buy them here -

The Compactor is probably more of a vacuum box than a vacuum box, but it's essentially the same product, and because it's so good we had to include it in this guide. This product has a capacity of 210L and is ideal for bulkier items like duvets and blankets. Once you've sucked the air out of the bag, the items inside will be reduced in size by up to 75%, which is really impressive. You can buy this product from John Lewis, and we're really impressed to see that the product has a perfect 5-star rating from more than 40 reviews on the John Lewis website. JML VacPack GO!

The JML brand is probably best known for making some very cheesy adverts, but there is no denying that the brand makes some excellent products. This vacuum storage bag from JML is a great example of that - the VacPack GO! is actually a portable vacuum storage system, so if you're travelling and you don't have access to a vacuum cleaner then this product is very useful. It comes with a mini pump which sucks all the air out of the vacuum bags very effectively and quickly. The pump is about the size of a can of Coke which is so impressive, and it can either be connected to the mains or powered via USB. JML claims that these vacuum bags can reduce the size of your items by up to 300%. Learn more and buy the product here -

Lakeland vacuum tote bags

We're impressed with a lot of the products from Lakeland, and recently raved about the great air fryer from the brand. These vacuum tote bags are big enough to store 1 single duvet and 2 pillows, and you get 3 vacuum bags in each pack. The bag does a great job of keeping moisture and dust out, and the bag is sturdy enough to keep the items inside it well-protected. Learn moere and buy the product here -

Home Store + More scented vacuum storage bags

Often when you put something in a vacuum storage bag, you'll keep it stored away for months or even years before reopening it. So this is why we really love the scented vacuum storage bags from Home Store + more. The bags themselves are great for bulky items such as duvets and pillows, and they're also reusable. But it's the scent that really impressed us - even if you've kept something vacuum-packed for months, you'll still get a fresh scent when you reopen the bag. The vanilla scent in particular was really lovely,  and it's so nice to reopen the bag and smell the vanilla. Learn more and buy them here -
