4 of the best turmeric supplements we’ve bought & tried

Published by Finn Hayden

These days, the trend that seems to be taking steam is using natural substances as a supplement, or alternative, to traditionally marketed pharmaceutical medication. There are plenty of these businesses popping up all over the world, and today we wanted to look at one of the best-selling natural alternative products on the market: Turmeric tablets.

We did some research and a lot of digging, and we have come to find a few brands that provide clean and effective turmeric, at a reasonable price.

What is Turmeric & What are its benefits?

Most of us know Turmeric as a shop-bought spice. Most of the time you can find it in Indian or Asian food stores, bit what we are talking about today is the active ingredient found within the spice: curcumin

Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant and has been found to have a very long list of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and immune system-boosting properties. There is a full study by the  National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) here.

A medical claim that is supported by the University of Arizona and published in the journal Phytotherapy Research, turmeric has huge potential for reducing inflammation. This can help reduce symptoms from arthritic joint pain, inflammatory pain and conditions. The anti-inflammatory properties could come from the antioxidant properties of turmeric - which means that it prevents damage and inflammation caused by free radicals. Too many free radicals can cause chronic conditions and even cancer.

Secondly, (according to the American Heart Association) terms can fight heart disease, by reducing inflammation and regulating healthy cholesterol levels.

It seems that the best turmeric supplements are those which contain a healthy concentration of curcumin and piperine - which is extracted from black pepper. The pepper gives the curcumin a boost.

Life Essentials (Turmeric & Black Pepper)

Life essentials are one of our favourite well-being brands at the moment. They are dedicated to producing the best possible formulations backed by science, and to suit a reasonable budget. You get the best of both worlds.

The packs contain 500mgs of both 95% curcummin and 95% piperine extracts which are super potent and really are one of the most effective we've tried. If you are looking for the best turmeric supplements the UK, then we think you'll find them here.

The best place to grab them is via their website here: Lifeessentials.co.uk

YourZooki Turmeric Sachet

Yes, this is not a capsule or tablet, but if you're looking for the most effective turmeric you can buy, then your Zooki may be your go to.

Your Zooki produces one of the best Turmeric products on the market due to their Liposomal encapsulation technology. Without getting to much into the science, it is absorbed by your body significantly better and is much more effective than any of the Turmeric tablets on the market.

I have used this product many, many times. It is relatively expensive but very easy to use, and the benefits are superb. The flavour isn't the best but it is better than a mouthful of raw Turmeric

You can pick them up from Holland & Barrett stores or get your whole month's supply on Amazon.co.uk

Solgar Full Spectrum Curcumin

This little box of 30 capsules was recommended to me by a friend who swears by these capsules. They are £30ish (£1 per capsule) but after trying all kinds of turmeric tablets, this is the one she takes every time.

The company claim the capsules are the most bioavailable form of turmeric. They are packed with a Full Spectrum Curcumin which contains other beneficial flavonoids and curcuminoids, alongside plant-based antioxidants that help protect you from free-radicals.

The only consideration we have about this product is that the addition of black pepper is always seen as more beneficial, where possible the best supplements contain curcumin and piperine.

You can find this product in a few places online or by popping into you local boots or Holland & Barrett

H&B High Strength Turmeric, Boswellia & Ginger

Holland & Barrett being the largest health food shop in the UK have a huge selection of Turmeric supplement options.

For many people, H&B would never get onto their list of the best turmeric capsules, but we quite like the combination of active ingredients in their home 'High Strength' product. Not only does it contain Turmeric but Boswella, Ginger, Shiitake Mushroom Reishe Mushroom (both good for immune health) and Black Pepper (to increases Curcumin effectiveness).

As a capsule goes, these are pretty well rounded. The only thing we should mention is that the formula does contain magnesium stearate which is a bulking, anti-caking agent. There are some studies that show this turns into Magnesium in the gut (good for bones) and that it doesn't become toxic. It is a consideration we have to make.

You can find them in-store or online!
