Tasty sugar free chocolate that is ideal for diabetics (6 best we’ve tried)

Published by Finn Hayden

Chocolate without sugar might sound a bit boring and pointless, but for people with conditions like diabetes, it's great to have this option.

Sugar-free chocolate allows people to enjoy the taste of chocolate without consuming all of the sugar which is typically packed into these bars. We're lucky here in the UK to have quite a few options when it comes to sugar free chocolate, the best of which we've rounded up for this guide.

Let's get into it:

CarbZone Dark Chocolate Orange

This chocolate from the CarbZone brand contains no added sugar but still has a lovely sweetness due to the Stevia used.

The orange flavour comes from real orange flavouring, and there is also a hint of vanilla which brings out so much natural sweetness. We're really impressed by this sugar free chocolate and think you should give it a try, especially if you like orange chocolate.

Diablo dark chocolate with sweetener

Regular readers of our blog might recognise the Diablo brand from some of our other guides, like our sugar free biscuits guide.

The team at Diablo are experts at making tasty treats without sugar, and this dark diabetic chocolate is a great example of that.

If you're a fan of the slightly more bitter taste of dark chocolate but you need to avoid sugar, then we highly recommend this bar.

It's sweetened with Maltitol rather than sugar, and has a very subtle but lovely sweetness. Learn more and buy it here - amazon.co.uk

Wizards 0% Sugar orange chocolate

The best sugar free chocolate we tried when sampling products for this guide was the 0% sugar orange chocolate from Wizards.

We genuinely think that in a blind taste test, most people wouldn't be able to tell that this chocolate contains no sugar. It has a lovely sweet taste with just a hint of orange, and the chocolate is very creamy and rich. As far as Diabetic chocolate goes, this is a dream.

The team at Wizards sweeten the sugar with Maltitol, and what's even more remarkable about this chocolate is that it's also vegan and gluten free. We're really impressed by this chocolate and think you will be too, learn more and buy it here - hollandandbarrett.com

Boots no added sugar Swiss milk chocolate

Anybody who has ever tried the Boots lunch deal knows that Boots is a great place to find delicious food, but we have to admit that we didn't expect to find delicious diabetic chocolate in Boots.

This no added sugar Swiss milk chocolate is made with 3 different sweeteners to keep that lovely sweetness - Lactitol, Aspartame, and Acesulfame K.

The chocolate itself is really smooth and tasty, so much so that you'll often see it out of stock on the Boots website because of how popular it is. We were lucky that we spotted a few bars inn our local Boots, so we made sure to stock up.

Chocologic Belgian dark chocolate

Sweetened with Stevia, this dark chocolate from Chocologic is really tasty and has a lovely sweetness, but contains no added sugar - making it ideal for diabetics.

And because Stevia contains no calories either, eating this chocolate won't affect your glycaemic levels, so it's well suited for diabetics.

No Added Sugar Smooth Milk Chocolate by Sainsbury's

We were surprised that so few of the big supermarkets in the UK stocked sugar free chocolate, let alone an own-brand option.

That's why we were so impressed to find this product in Sainsbury's - an own brand no added sugar milk chocolate bar. What's even more impressive is that the supermarket does a dark chocolate version of this product too, although we have to admit that we preferred the slightly sweeter-tasting milk chocolate.

The sweetness comes from Maltitol and Lactitol, and the cocoa used in the bar is Rainforest Alliance Certified. Considering you can buy a large bar (100g) of this chocolate for under £1, we think this is a great product. Learn more and buy it here - sainsburys.co.uk
