The best pasta sauce in a jar you can buy in the UK (top 6)

Published by Finn Hayden

Pasta might be an Italian invention, but it's easily one of the most popular dinner choices here in the UK. Most of us eat pasta at least once per week, and we've all got a preferred pasta dish.

Good pasta needs a good pasta sauce, and many people will opt to make their own sauce to serve with their pasta. But we're lucky here in the UK to have lots of excellent choices when it comes to pasta sauce in a jar that you can buy.

We thought it would be useful to round up the best pasta sauce in a jar that you can buy, let's get into it:

Barilla Arrabbiata Tomato & Chilli Sauce

If you're looking for a delicious tomato-based pasta sauce with a little kick of chilli, then this arrabbiata sauce from Barilla is a great option. Made using 100% Italian field-grown tomatoes and all-natural ingredients, it has a lovely sweetness from the tomatoes followed by a nice heat from the chilli. This pasta sauce will work with any pasta cut, from spaghetti to fusilli. Barilla is an Italian family-run company and they definitely know what they're doing when it comes to pasta sauce. De Cecco Alla Napoletana Pasta Sauce

This pasta sauce from De Cecco is very simple, but is the perfect sauce to use for a quintessentially Italian pasta dish. The recipe comes from Heinz Beck, an internationally acclaimed chef who is German-Born but is also a founder of The Order of the Knights of Italian Cuisine. With very few ingredients, Beck managed to create a very tasty pasta sauce - this sauce is made using Italian tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil, as well as basil. It's made only using natural ingredients and contains no preservatives. Learn more and buy it here - ocado.com

Sainsbury's Taste The Difference

We're often impressed by the own-brand food products from Sainsbury's, especially products from the Taste The Difference range like the delicious prosecco we included in a guide. The pasta sauce from the Sainsbury's Taste The Difference range is really excellent - every sauce is made using natural ingredients and the Tomato & Mascarpone sauce from the range is really creamy and lovely. Tesco Finest Sundried Tomato & Roasted GarlicĀ

We were actually pleasantly surprised by how excellent the pasta sauce was from the Tesco Finest range, as we found the standard pasta sauce to be very average. But the Tesco Finest version was delicious, especially the Sundried Tomato & Roasted Garlic sauce. This is actually a concentrated sauce, so you can mix it with water to make it as thick or as thin as you like. This is really useful as the consistency you want might change depending on what type of pasta you're using. Learn more and buy it here - tesco.com

Loyd Grossman

We gave the Loyd Grossman curry sauce the top spot in our curry sauce in a jar guide, and although we don't think the pasta sauce from the brand is as good as the curry sauce, we still think all of the pasta sauces from Loyd Grossman are really excellent. They're all made with 100% natural ingredients and extra virgin olive oil, giving every pasta sauce in the range a lovely rich flavour. We especially love the tomato & chilli variety. Filippo Berio

Filippo Berio is perhaps best known as an olive oil or pesto brand, but the brand also has an excellent range of pasta sauces. Each sauce in the range is made using 100% Italian tomatoes and a good glug of Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil. They're also all vegan-friendly and free from gluten too. We especially love the slight saltiness of the olive pasta sauce from Filippo Berio. Learn more and buy them here - tesco.com
