Natural toothpaste that’ll give you an effective but natural teeth clean (6 we’ve tried & love)

Published by Finn Hayden

Most of us are really careful about what we put in our mouths, and if we know that food is filled with ingredients that we can't pronounce, then generally we'll probably avoid it. But it's interesting that despite most of us brushing our teeth twice per day (you do brush twice per day, right?), we don't seem to care as much about the ingredients in our toothpaste. If you've never looked at the back of a toothpaste packet then you're in for a shock - there are some big words on there.

Luckily, for anyone wanting to avoid these unpronounceable ingredients in their toothpaste, there are lots of excellent types of natural toothpaste out there to buy. We wanted to round up the best natural toothpaste that we've bought and tried, let's get into it:

Ben & Anna black toothpaste

It might look a little weird to see toothpaste in a square box, but this is quite an interesting natural toothpaste - it comes in a little jar, and is totally free from EDTA, triclosan, peroxide. In fact, every single ingredient in the jar comes from a natural origin. It's made with activated charcoal which is what gives the toothpaste such a dark black colour. This toothpaste is also vegan certified, so overall just a great option for an effective natural toothpaste. Learn more and buy it here -

Dr Organic toothpaste

We've raved about the natural products from the Dr Organic brand quite a few times in our guides, recently featuring the brand in our natural deodorant guide. The toothpaste from this brand is also excellent, and is also made using natural ingredients. We tried 2 of the natural toothpaste options from Dr Organic - the Purifying Toothpaste and the Whitening Toothpaste. Made using natural ingredients such as aloe vera, pomegranate, and tea tree, this toothpaste uses the power of nature to provide a deep and effective clean for your teeth. Kingfisher Natural Toothpaste

Kingfisher was the first natural toothpaste brand to receive approval from the British Dental Health Foundation, and is probably the most popular natural toothpaste brand in the UK too. It's not hard to see why either - the commitment from the brand to using natural ingredients in the toothpaste they produce is impressive, with no artificial colourings, flavourings, sweeteners, or preservatives used. You can buy the toothpaste from Kingfisher with or without flouride depending on your preference. We also love the taste of the toothpaste from Kingfisher, and most of the toothpaste from this brand contains fennel for a fresh taste. Learn more and buy it here -

hello naturally whitening toothpaste

Although we didn't include this toothpaste in our guide to the best whitening toothpaste, we still really liked it and love to see a natural toothpaste with whitening properties. Made using farm grown mint alongside tea tree and coconut oil, this toothpaste will make your mouth feel fresh and will also help to whiten naturally, as well as prevent cavities. This toothpaste is also free from artificial sweeteners, and contains no colourants or sulfates. Overall, we think it's a great option. Learn more and buy it here -

Aloe Dent toothpaste

As the name suggests, Aloe Dent toothpaste is made using Aloe Vera as one of the main ingredients. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that aloe vera can be effective at killing bacteria which can cause cavities, so having this natural ingredient included in toothpaste makes perfect sense. This toothpaste is fluoride free and also contains CoQ10, a substance which is found naturally in the body and which helps to boost the cleaning properties of the product. Aloe Dent toothpaste

The entire Ecodenta range of toothpastes is made using natural ingredients, and is also totally vegan-friendly and made without fluoride. We were especially impressed by the Exceptional Whitening toothpaste from the Ecodenta range - designed specifically for wine and coffee drinkers, the toothpaste contains lemon essential oil and bergamot oil to deal with stains, and also Kalident which helps to restore calcium.
