Low sugar chocolate that actually tastes good (7 of the best I’ve tried)

Published by Finn Hayden

Before you click off this article in disgust, stick with us for a second! There is such a thing as delicious low sugar chocolate, and we've actually tried quite a lot of it now. In fact, we've enjoyed so much of it that we're not sure we need to buy normal chocolate ever again. We've rounded up the best low sugar chocolate that we've tried and that can be bought in the UK, let's get into it:

Wizards Chocolate 0% sugar

The most amazing thing about the Wizards chocolate is that not only did it contain 0% sugar, but it was also among the best chocolate that we tried. We didn't get too much of the orange flavour from the chocolate, but it was very creamy and remarkably, it's also totally vegan and high in fibre. Learn more and buy it here -

Enjoy! Low sugar mint choc bar

If you're a fan of mint chocolate but you're trying to cut down on your sugar intake, these mint choc bars from Enjoy! are definitely worth trying. Each 70g bar contains just 3g of sugar, but it still has a sweetness due to the Erythritol, Tiger Nut and Inulin used in the recipe. The Inulin provides an added bonus as it's a type of sugar known as a fructan which promotes healthy gut bacterial growth, so you can feel extra good about eating this chocolate. Balance 78% less sugar

There's actually a Balance bar which has 95% less sugar, but we prefer the taste of the milk variety which has 78% less sugar. It really tastes brilliant and nothing like most of the reduced sugar chocolate bars that we tasted for this list - it still has a sweetness thanks to the stevia in the ingredients, which is a natural sugar alternative. Each bar contains just 3.5g of sugar. Learn more and buy it here -

The Skinny Food Co. Chocaholic Drops

So far we've only included chocolate bars in our list, but if you like your chocolate in other shapes then these Chocaholic Drops from The Skinny Food Co. are really excellent. Made to look like Smarties, they're perfect for snacking on the go and they contain just 1.4g of sugar per tube. To put that into perspective, a tube of Smarties contains almost 24g of sugar. Diablo dark chocolate with sweetener

We definitely don't think that the Diablo chocolate bars are as good as the other sugar free chocolate we included in this list from Wizards, but we do still think it is worthy of a place in our list. It's dark chocolate but is made with sweetener so isn't too bitter, and in our opinion it basically tastes almost exactly the same as normal dark chocolate. Learn more and buy it here -

Cadbury Dairy Milk 30% less sugar

Cadbury purists will definitely be able to taste the difference compared to a standard Dairy Milk, but we think the 30% less sugar Dairy Milk is actually really good. It obviously doesn't quite have the same sweetness as a normal Dairy Milk bar, but we thought it was just as creamy and tasted almost exactly the same. Learn more and buy it here -

Mars protein

We could have actually included a number of protein bars in this list, as they're usually chocolate and they're usually very low in sugar. But we wanted to give a special mention to the Mars Protein bars as not only do they contain the same amount of chocolate as a standard Mars bar, but they also contain 40% less sugar. To us, we could barely taste the difference, plus we get the added boost of protein. Learn more and buy it here -
