The best low calorie hot chocolate you can buy in the UK (top 6)

Drinking hot chocolate can be a real treat after a long day. We've listed our favourite hot chocolates previously, but if you're worried about your waistline then we'd recommend not looking at the labels on those products - most of them are packed with calories. However, we're lucky here in the UK that there are quite a number of excellent low calorie hot chocolate brands that we can buy, and we wanted to round up the best that we've found. Let's get into it:

Cadbury Highlights - 38kcal per serving

In terms of chocolate brands in the UK, it doesn't get much bigger than Cadbury. The range of hot chocolate produced by this brand is very popular, and fans of the range who want to enjoy the Cadbury hot chocolate without stressing about calories will be delighted to see the Cadbury Highlights product. This is a lighter version of the milk chocolate Cadbury hot chocolate which contains just 38 calories per serving (200ml water with 11g of powder). Learn more and buy it here - cadbury.co.uk

Cadbury High Lights

Options Belgian Chocolate

The entire range of hot chocolate powder from the Options brand is low in calories, and most of the flavours we tried were really tasty. But our favourite is the Mint Belgian Choc variety, which contains just 39 calories per serving (11g of powder with 200ml water). We'd definitely recommend trying a range of flavours to see which is your favourite, learn more and buy it here - twinings.co.uk

Sainsbury's Low Calorie Instant Hot Chocolate

We tried a number of hot chocolate powders from the UK supermarkets, and this one was from Sainsury's was the best tasting in our opinion. It was also the only one which proudly labels itself as 'low calorie' (the other 2 use the word 'light'), and we can see why - it contains just 40kcal per serving (11g in 200ml water). On top of tasting great and being low in calories, this is also made with Fairtrade chocolate. Learn more and buy it here - sainsburys.co.uk

Asda Light Instant Hot Chocolate

This Light Hot Chocolate from Asda isn't quite as tasty as the Sainsbury's product above, nor is it quite as low in calories at 42kcal per serving. But we still really enjoyed it and love that it contains no artificial colours or flavours, plus it's made from Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa. Learn more and buy it here - groceries.asda.com

Galaxy Light

Similar to the Cadbury hot chocolate range, the Galaxy hot chocolate products are very popular. So we were delighted to see that Galaxy launched a lighter version of its instant hot chocolate which contains just 38kcal per serving. This is 61 calories fewer per serving compared to the standard Galaxy hot chocolate, which is really impressive. Learn more and buy it here - tesco.com

Tesco Lighter Hot Chocolate

Of all the supermarket hot chocolates we found, the Tesco Lighter Hot Chocolate was the one which we enjoyed the least, but it still tasted pretty good. And most importantly, this hot chocolate contained just 40kcal per serving, which is the same amount as the low calorie hot chocolate from Sainsbury's. You could certainly do a lot worse than this hot chocolate and was by no means a bad product, learn more and buy it here - tesco.com
