The best low calorie cider you can buy in the UK (top 5)
People often assume that because cider is made from fruit, it can be considered a healthier alternative to beer. But in terms of calories, that really isn't the case. In fact, it's precisely because cider is made using fruit that a pint of cider tends to almost always have more calories in it than a pint of beer.
Luckily though, there are some low calorie cider options out there which you can drink. We thought it would be useful to round up the best low calorie cider that you can buy, let's get into it:
Strongbow Ultra Apple Cider - 24 calories per 100ml
We were really impressed by how low in calories the Strongbow Ultra Apple cider is - at 24 calories per 100ml, this is by far the lowest calorie cider you can buy from Strongbow, and one of the lowest calorie ciders you'll find anywhere. Skinny Cider - 27 calories per 100ml
We included the excellent lager from the Skinny brand in our low calorie lager guide, and the IPA from the brand in our low carb beer guide, so we weren't surprised to see that the brand has also launched a low calorie cider. At just 27 calories per 100ml, this is the lowest calorie cider we could find. Strongbow Ultra Dark Fruit - 28 calories per 100ml
If you're a fan of the original Dark Fruit cider from Strongbow then consider trying the low calorie Ultra Dark Fruit version - at 28 calories per 100ml, this cider contains 30% fewer calories compared to the original Strongbow Dark Fruit cider, and we still think it has a really nice fruity taste. Strongbow Original - 37 calories per 100ml
Even though Strongbow Original isn't marketed as a low calorie cider in the same way that Strongbow Ultra is, the original variety of Strongbow is still very low in calories compared to most other ciders you can buy. The only other mainstream cider that we could find which could rival Strongbow in terms of calorie content was Bulmers Original - this cider contains just 38 calories per 100ml, and we'd actually say that we prefer the taste of Bulmers Original compared to Strongbow Original.
