The best kombucha you can buy in the UK (top 5)

Published by Finn Hayden

There are so many health drinks out there to choose from at the moment, and we've written about a number of them. Often these health drinks will be popular for a bit but will quickly fade away, but kombucha seems to have really stuck around and continues to grow in popularity.

And to be honest, we're not surprised by this popularity at all - not only is kombucha packed with goodness for your gut, but we also find it to be very tasty. It's really refreshing and has a slightly sour taste, which we really can't get enough of. It also tends to be low in calories, and most of the kombucha we tried contains no added sugar.

You can actually make your own kombucha, but if you want to buy a readymade kombucha then you've got loads of excellent options. We thought it would be useful to round up the best kombucha that you can buy in the UK, based on our experiences and third-party reviews. You can read more about how tested the kombucha that we included in this guide here. Let's get into it:

Willy's kombucha & acv

Willy's is actually probably best known as an apple cider vinegar brand, but the brand recently added this kombucha drink to the range and we think it's absolutely excellent. The kombucha drinks from Willy's are fermented at the farm owned by the brand in Herefordshire, and they contain no added sugar. There are 3 flavours, but we love the sparkling apple flavour which is refreshing and has a bit of tangy bite to it. The sparkling apple flavour was also a winner of a Great Taste award in 2022. We love it and think yu will too, learn more and buy it here - amazon.co.uk

Remedy

Remedy is probably the most popular kombucha brand in the UK at the moment. We see the products stocked in lots of supermarkets, and we've even seen the kombucha sold in our local Wetherspoons. And we totally get why this brand has become so popular - the kombucha from Remedy is really tasty. It also contains no sugar and each can only contains 7 calories, so it's a great option for anyone wanting a drink which is low in calories. We love the Raspberry Lemonade kombucha from Remedy, which is not only very tasty but also packed with live cultures. Learn more and buy it here - tesco.com

Lo Bros

The kombucha from Lo Bros is 100% organic and is really flavoursome, which really impressed us. According to the Lo Bros website, the team uses an authentic method of brewing to make their kombucha, which takes longer than some of the other methods used by other companies but results in a better flavour. And it definitely seems like a lot of people agree with us on how tasty this kombucha is, as the Raspberry & Lemon variety has an impressive rating of 4.4/5 from more than 900 reviews on Amazon. The GUTsy Captain Kombucha

Aside from having a great name, this kombucha from The GUTsy Captain is also really tasty and packed with goodness. It also happens to be the best-selling kombucha in Europe, and it's really growing in popularity in the UK. All of the kombucha produced by this brand is made using 100% natural ingredients and is made using a traditional fermentation method with SCOBY.  The taste of this kombucha is really interesting and we definitely found it to be a bit sweeter than many of the other kombucha drinks we tried for this guide. We've only tried the standard range of kombucha from this brand, but there is also a 'Kombucha Zero' range from The GUTsy Captain which is 100% free from sugar and calories, and we're looking forward to trying that too. Hip Pop

Hip Pop has very quickly grown to become one of the most popular kombucha brands in the UK, and we're not surprised by this at all - not only does the kombucha from this brand taste lovely, but it's also packed with live cultures. We're big fans of the Apple and Elderflower variety of kombucha from Hip Pop, which has won a Great Taste gold star (pictured). Learn more and buy it here - amazon.co.uk

Nexba

Nexba is a brand which makes a variety of drinks, and the brand has recently added kombucha to its range. All of the kombucha from Nexba is brewed for 40 days before being bottled, which means it is full of flavour and live cultures. The brand also uses a unique strain of 1.5 billion live probiotics in each brewing batch, so you're getting a unique mix of friendly-bacteria in every mouthful of kombucha. There is nothing artificial in the kombucha from Nexba and it's also totally free from sugar. We're really impressed with the kombucha from Nexba, especially the Mixed Berry flavour. How did we decide what the best kombucha is?

We tried a variety of kombucha for this guide, and we felt that much of what we tried didn't make the cut. We considered a number of factors when trying to determine what the "best" kombucha was, including taste, value for money, and the live cultures found in each drink. As you can see from the image, we tried 3 different varieties of kombucha from Hip Pop before placing the brand in this list of the best kombucha we tried.
