Which brand has the best hiking trousers? Let’s do some walking

I am lucky enough to be close to some amazing walks. Waterfalls, small mountains and quaint villages are all part of my regular rounds. I've hiked for years, and the one bit of kit I have struggled to find reliably great is hiking trousers. It's hard to find a pair that is durable enough, great in all weathers and has the right amount of pockets.

I've therefore, inadvertently been on the hunt for the best hiking trousers available in the UK, and you'll be surprised what I have found. So, let's have a dive into the best trousers I've worn, and still wear today.

Just a quick note too, I am male, so I have been wearing the mens trousers. If you're reading this, i've made sure to check the reviews for women's trousers too.

Revolution Race Rambler Trousers - Best Summer hikers (£109)

For summer, look no further than the Revolution Race Ramber series. They are light-weight yet durable, are stretchy and comfortable, and still keep you warm when you need it. They are not as weather-resistant as other trousers, but for spring and summer, these trousers are superb.

For me, a key selling point is that they have several pockets that are great for holding your phone, keys, a knife, a torch or snacks. They have adjustable waist straps and openings in the inner thighs for when things get a bit hot.

Honestly, these are some of my favourite trousers I own.

You can buy men's and women's trousers (and zip on shorts) directly from the Revolution Race website, but their delivery is fairly slow. They may also be available on Amazon UK too.

Revolution Race GP PRO - Most Durable (£109)

The GP PRO are very similar to the Revolution Race Norwind. Each are made from the same materials, but the GP PRO feels more durable around the lower legs and knees.

For longer walks, I think the Norwind version is slightly more comfortable but, if you're regularly walking through long grass, bushes or spending lots of time outside, these trousers are perfect.

I tend to use the GP pro for working in the garden, or when I take the dogs out for a walk (they like to explore in the woods close to me, and drag me through it all!).

At full price, the trousers are £109, but RVRC always have discounts and sales on. For the quality, you can't complain about the price.

Men's and women's trousers are available from the Revolution Race website, but the delivery can be slow. They may also be available on Amazon UK too.

QUECHUA SH500 - Best cheap trousers (£39 - £59)

The first hiking trousers I ever bought were QUECHUA, which is the home brand for Decathlon. Yes! They are super cheap, but they are perfect for what they are.

I've been wearing mind for about 7 years now, and they are still great. Albeit a bit worn and ripped, I still use them when my other trousers are in the wash.

I only paid £30 for them and I've got more than my money's worth out of them. I've climbed with them in the snow, used them in the summer and for cutting around the garden. Still, they are great.

Honestly, the quality doesn't feel as nice as other options, but for a pair that are as cheap as chips, you can't go wrong.

The exact ones I have are no longer on sale, but you'll find some great trousers in a Decathlon store, or on their website.

VIDDA PRO - Best top-end trousers (£200)

The two brands that are constantly compared are Fjallraven and RVRC. Both are Swedish companies, and made their names by producing great trousers.

The VIDDA PRO are a pair of trousers I've coveted regularly, but just didn't like the price tag attached to them. The quality is slightly better than the RVRC counterparts, but the price keeps me going back to RVRC.

The VIDDA PRO trousers are durable, have loads of pockets, an axe ring and loads of other cool features. They are extremely popular online and often considered as one of the best hiking trousers you can buy. Di I agree? Yes, but I'd still think I can get better value with RVRC.

These trousers are available directly on the fjallraven.com, where you can also read the reviews.
