The best hair colour apps you can download in the UK (top 3)

If you want to find out what your hair would look like with a specific colour, it's a lot more complicated than just looking in the mirror and imagining. Although some of us have a very clearly defined hair colour, the majority of us have a mix of colours in our hair, and it's not as easy as saying that our hair is just blonde or brown.

It can often be really important to know exactly what your hair would look like as a specific colour, for example, if you're planning to dye your hair.

Luckily, there are some apps you can use which will actually help you to see what your hair would look like with a different colour. There are quite a few apps like this, so we thought it would be useful to round up the best hair colour apps you can download. Let's get into it:

HairColorChanger

HairColorChanger doesn't have an AI camera which can give you a real-time idea of what you'd look like with a different colour of hair, but if you take a selfie and give the app access to your photos then the app can add colour to your hair within any photo. What really impressed us about this app is the range of colours you can choose from within the free version of the app - we counted more than 200 colours that you can choose from. It's not less common colours such as green and blue either, it's really useful colours including lots of different shades of browns and blondes, so you can get an idea of what your hair would look like with very specific shades of common colours. It can actually add colour to hair to a group photo too, so if you and your friends want to find out what you'd all look like with different hair then just take a group selfie and let the app work its magic. Once you've chosen a colour that you like, you can download the image onto your smartphone. We found the app to be really easy and quick to use, with no signup and very few adverts. Learn more and download it from the Google Play Store here and the Apple App Store here.

Hair Color

Hair Color is a great app which is very quick to get started with - you can either take a quick selfie or select an existing photo from your library. Once you've chosen a photo, the app will automatically detect where your hair is, and you'll immediately be able to start experimenting with different colours. What we really like about this app is that rather than selecting 1 colour for your hair, you can move a slider to find a really specific colour and see what your hair would look like with that colour. This includes common shades such as blonde, black, and brown. The only reason we haven't included this app higher in our guide is because the ads are full page and pop up quite frequently, but we do think this is a great app, especially given that it is totally free to use. Learn more and download it from the Apple App Store here.

Hair Color Changer

This app is free but we'd definitely say that the paid version of the app is needed if you're actually wanting to see your hair in a colour that you might actually be considering switching to. The free version of the app gives you access to the AI camera which is actually really good and shows you what the technology can do - you just point the camera at your face or at the face of someone else, and the app will automatically colour their hair. As we say, the free version of the app isn't too useful (unless you're planning to dye your hair bright blue), but the paid version of the app looks very useful with a huge selection of colours.
