7 tasty gluten free cereals you can buy

Published by Finn Hayden

If you're trying to avoid consuming gluten, you sort of have to accept that there are some types of foods which you just can't eat. Although we've previously shown that there is plenty of gluten free bread and gluten free beer to choose from, most people assume that cereal is a no-go, especially when popular brands like Kellogg's and Weetabix include gluten in almost all of their cereal products. But that really isn't the case, and we're happy to report that you're spoilt for choice when it comes to gluten free cereal in the UK. We wanted to round up the best gluten free cereal that we've tried, let's get into it:

Freee chocolate stars

We wanted to start with the chocolate stars from Freee because we immediately wanted to shatter the idea that gluten free cereal has to be boring. Made from rice and maize, this cereal is totally delicious and 100% organic. It has a really satisfying crunch and a really chocolatey taste, despite being totally vegan too. The cereal is Coeliac UK approved and also Soil Association certified. Learn more and buy it here -

Whole Earth Golden Organic Corn Flakes

If you like your cereal to be a bit more straightforward, then the Golden Organic Corn Flakes from the Whole Earth brand are a great option. Not many people realise that most corn flakes contain gluten due to the malt flavor in them, so it's great to have a delicious gluten free option. The Whole Earth brand is best known for producing healthy peanut butter, but the gluten free cereal from this brand is also very good. These corn flakes are made from organic corn and they're also low in fat and sugar. Learn more and buy them here -

Nutri-Brex Gluten Free

We're big fans of Weetabix and think that Weetabix is generally healthy, but unfortunately Weetabix contains gluten. Luckily for anyone who loves Weetabix but can't eat gluten, there are some great alternatives to the popular cereal, with the Nutri-Brex Gluten Free biscuits being the best that we've tried. Made from sorghum, the Nutri-Brex biscuits have a very similar taste and texture to Weetabix, and they're also naturally high in fibre and free from artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. We're impressed by these, learn more and buy them here -

Nature's Path Mesa Sunrise Flakes

This cereal from Nature's Path is apparently the most popular in the UK, and to be honest we're not surprised. What really impressed us about these Mesa Sunrise flakes from Nature's Brand is that they stayed really crunchy for a long time, and they didn't become soggy in milk. Made from a mix of quinoa, buckwheat, flax, and corn, they're naturally free from gluten and high in fibre. All of the ingredients are organic and the cereal is also quite high in protein. Eat Natural Gluten Free Buckwheat Toasted Muesli

If you're a fan of muesli then you'll probably already be familiar with the Eat Natural brand, but you might not have realised that you can buy a gluten free version of their muesli. Made from buckwheat, this toasted muesli is packed with seeds and dried fruit and is really tasty, plus it's high in fibre which keeps you feeling really full. Learn more and buy it here -

Go free gluten free honey flakes

So far most of the gluten free cereal that we've included in this list has been quite healthy, but if you're the type of person that loves a sweeter cereal for breakfast then you'll love the Go Free gluten free honey flakes. Made by Nestle, these honey flakes taste very similar to Crunchy Nut and make for a very nice gluten free alternative to the popular honey nut cereal. These feel a little bit naughty which is perfect for anyone who wants a tasty gluten free cereal, learn more and buy it here -

Spoon Granola

We didn't actually include Spoon in our list of the healthiest granola you can buy, but we really should have - it's excellent. As you can see from the image, this cereal has won a Great Taste award is gluten free, vegan, and high in fibre. It's Cinnamon and Pecan flavour and has a sweetness which is moreish, but it definitely isn't too sweet. It contains real pecan pieces too so it's high in protein also. Learn more and buy it here -
