3 tasty breakfast cereals that’ll help you lower your cholesterol

We're big fans of starting our day with a bowl of cereal, and we love it even more when that cereal has health benefits. We've previously rounded up great options for high fibre cereal and even high protein cereal.


So based on our previous guides, we weren't surprised to see that there is lots of cereal out there which claims to help lower cholesterol. There is plenty of research which indicates that consumption of oats can help to lower cholesterol, so when we were researching for this guide we were mostly eating oat-based breakfast cereals.


We wanted to round up the best cereals for lowering cholesterol that we've tried. let's get into it:


OatWell Crispy Hearts

Of all the breakfast cereals that we looked at for this guide, OatWell (which sounds like it could be the official cereal of our website, You Well) was the only cereal which explicitly mentioned that it can help to lower cholesterol, right on the front of the box. This cereal comes in 30g sachets, and each sachet contains 30g sachet contains 3g of oat beta-glucan, which is the recommended daily amount. The OatWell Crispy Hearts cereal is made from 50% oat bran, but also contains corn flour, salt, and vanilla flavouring, so it's actually quite tasty. Learn more and buy it here -


We mentioned in our guide about how healthy Oatibix is that this cereal is predominately made from oats, and that's exactly what makes it so great for lowering cholesterol. As with OatWell, it's the beta-glucans from the oats in Oatibix which make it so great for people with high cholesterol. 2 Oatibix biscuits contain 2g of beta glucan soluble fibre, and we find them very easy to eat. Lizi's Low Sugar Granola

As the team at Lizi's mentions on their website, oats are a source of Beta Glucan, a soluble fibre that has been proven to help lower levels of bad cholesterol. All of the granola from the Lizi's range is made using oats, but if we had to recommend the best one to try for lowering cholesterol then we'd recommend the low sugar granola.
