The best beef jerky you can buy in the UK (top 5)

Published by Finn Hayden

Beef jerky has been around for a long time, but in recent years the product has seen a huge surge in popularity as a healthy snack. This is because it tends to be low in calories and high in protein, and it's also very convenient to eat while you're on the go. It also happens to be very tasty.

With so many beef jerky options currently available out there in the UK, we wanted to round up the best beef jerky that we've bought and tried. Let's get into it:

Get Jerky Original

With a 2021 Great Taste award, it's fair to say that the beef jerky from the Get Jerky brand is pretty delicious. Made using PGI Welsh Beef, this jerky has a very slight spicy kick to it and is really tasty. Each pack contains more than 19g of protein, so it's an ideal snack to enjoy after the gym. Plus, it's gluten free. Learn more and buy it here - amazon.co.uk

Jack Links Beef Jerky Original

Made with premium cuts of lean beef and seasoned with a unique blend of spices, Jack Links Original beef jerky is straightforward and tasty. It definitely has flavour but there is no spicy taste- we'd describe it more as a smoky taste that's both satisfying and delicious. The jerky is made from Brazilian beef and is totally halal. The taste is great and the small 25g bags are perfect for snacking on. Learn more and buy it here - groceries.asda.com

Wild West Original Beef Jerky

The team at Wild West describes their original beef jerky as the most authentic beef jerky you can buy outside of the USA, but it's actually made in the Highlands of Scotland. All of the beef jerky produced by Wild West is made using the finest joints of beef silverside, and we really think that comes through in the taste - it's delicious. Impressively, this jerky is 30% protein too. Learn more and buy it here - tesco.com

Kings Wagyu Platinum Edition Jerky

We included the Kings brand in our biltong guide, but the brand is probably best known for making beef jerky. You can buy a standard variety of beef jerky from Kings, but we think the Wagyu Platinum Edition is the best in the range by far. Made using a mix of 100% wagyu beef from Britain & Australia, there is no denying that the wagyu beef makes for a more succulent and tasty beef jerky. You'll have to pay a bit more for this product compared to most beef jerky, but we think if you're looking for a real treat then it is absolutely worth paying the difference. Snaktastic Lidl beef jerky

Lidl was the only supermarket we found with an own-brand beef jerky, and as with most of the products from Lidl, we were really impressed with this product. Made using British and Irish beef, this is very simple beef jerky without huge amounts of seasoning or spice, but if you're looking for something straightforward to snack on then this is ideal. Better yet, this was also the cheapest beef jerky we found at less than £2 per packet. You can buy some at your local Lidl, usually next to the tills.
