The best alkaline water you can buy in the UK (top 5)

Published by Finn Hayden

Lots of health products come and go, and we've seen and tried most of them (you should see how many Holland and Barrett points we have). We can tell you with some authority that most of them aren't worth your time, but every now and then a health product comes along which seems to stick for some reason, and that's exactly what seems to have happened with alkaline water.

It might seem odd to buy water which is alkaline, but there are some studies which suggest that drinking alkaline water can provide a variety of interesting benefits, so more and more people are trying alkaline water for themselves to see if they feel a benefit.

We thought it would be useful to round up the best alkaline water that you can buy in the UK, let's get into it:

ActiPH

The biggest alkaline water brand in the UK at the moment is ActiPH, and we definitely think the brand is worthy of the top spot. This product is simply fresh Shropshire spring water which has been ionised and which has also had electrolytes added to it. The blend of electrolytes added to the water is unique to AcitPH, and the water is ionised by passing a current through it. The end result is alkaline water with a pH of 9+. We find the taste of this water to be really smooth and clean. Learn more and buy it here - amazon.co.uk

Acqua Panna

Sourced from the hills of Tuscany, this fancy-looking water from Acqua Panna is naturally alkaline. With a pH of 8.2, this water has a unique mineral balance due to the journey it takes through rocks before being bottled, and we actually featured this product in our mineral water guide. The taste of this water is lovely and we think it works especially well when paired with a meal. You'll usually find this water in glass bottles which makes it less convenient for drinking on the go but ideal for consuming at home. Learn more and buy it here - waitrose.com

AQUAVIA alkaline water

We're starting to see the AQUAVIA alkaline water stocked in more UK supermarkets, and we think that's great because this is an excellent product - made using water from the Sequoia Valley which has natural alkalinity, the water is completely untouched and is unique in that it isn't ionised to be made alkaline, but is alkaline at the source. The water has a pH of 9.4 and we personally found the taste to be very smooth and refreshing. It's available at Sainsbury's, learn more and buy it here - sainsburys.co.uk

AQUA Carpatica Still

This water from AQUA Carpatica Still has a pH of 8.2 and is naturally alkaline - this is due to the presence of bicarbonate ions in the aquifer of the spring where the water is sourced from. This water is particularly high in magnesium, with AQUA Carpatica providing 16% of an adult’s daily Magnesium needs per litre. The high magnesium content contributes to the alkalinity of the water, as does the high calcium and potassium content. This water tasted very clean and we tasted no bitterness. Agua de monchique Natural Alkaline Mineral Water

With a pH of 9.5, this water from the Agua de Monchique brand is the most alkaline water that we could find, and impressively this alkalinity is achieved entirely naturally. The water is rich in bicarbonate, sodium, and fluoride, which all contribute to the high pH. We'd describe this water as very soft-tasting and enjoyable to drink, especially when served ice cold.
