The best Aldi Red Wine that we’ve tried, tested and tried again.

Toro Loco (£5.29)

Toro Loco Tempranillo (2018) is an Aldi gem that proves great wine doesn’t need a big price tag. At just £5.29, this Spanish red is smooth, fruity, and wonderfully easy to drink.

Expect notes of dark berries, cherry, vanilla, pepper, and a subtle spice that makes it versatile with BBQs, pasta, or simply sipping in the garden.

Award-winning and full of character, it’s a bargain bottle that holds its own against wines twice the price.

CHASSAUX ET FILSCôtes du Rhône (£5.29)

Aldi’s Chassaux et Fils Specially Selected 2022 is a full-bodied red from France’s Rhône region, costing just £5.29. There is nothing special about the wine, but it's a very reliably good one.

Made from 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah, it’s lightly oaked and dry, with 14% alcohol, offering rich, robust flavours and a smooth finish.

This wine is ideal for casual dinners or a relaxed evening. This affordable French red punches above its weight and is an excellent value buy for wine lovers seeking quality without the price tag.

Barron Amarillo - Rioja (£4.99)

Baron Amarillo Rioja Reserva 2011 from Aldi turned out better than expected for just $10 a bottle.

Rioja, in northern Spain, is famous for Tempranillo blends with grapes like Garnacha or Graciano. This one was medium-to-light bodied with notes of cherry, plum, a touch of vanilla and oak. Nothing mind-blowing, but smooth, balanced and pretty easy drinking.

On a warm evening it went down fast enough I didn’t notice my glass was empty. For the price, it’s definitley not “plonk” – more like a solid 3/5 and decent value.

You can find the wine here, on the Aldi website or in store.

Kooliburra - The Reprobates Red Wine

Clearly, a rip on the 19 crimes.

Tried this Aldi Shiraz (actually a GSM blend) out of curiosity, half-expecting it to be worse than 19 Crimes. On the nose it’s sweet but the taste is somewhat flat.

It is somewhat acidy, and it didn’t pair well with food aside from maybe hard cheese.

Bland, overly sweet, and forgettable overall. For a wine at 14.5% ABV, it somehow still feels weal. A disappointing, tasteless bottle that commits the biggest crime of all: being totally unmemorable.

For more information on the wine, it's on the Aldi website or in-store.

Buenas Vides Jammy Red (£5.99)

Aldi shoppers are buzzing over Buenas Vides Jammy Argentina Red, a £5.99 limited edition Malbec that looks- and tastes-a lot like the popular Jam Shed Shiraz.

Again, clearly Aldi have been at it and branding their home wines like some of the best, and most popular, wines in the UK.

Across social media the wine is praised for being “fantastic,” “gorgeous,” and even “better than the original.” Which I think is a stretch, but it is a close copy!

With juicy, sweet jammy flavours, smooth texture, and easy drinkability, it’s a real crowd-pleaser.

At £5.79, significantly cheaper than Jam Shed, this dupe offers superb quality without the hefty price tag. Perfect for weekend sipping, it’s quickly become a favourite Aldi bargain. I'll definitely be buying again.

Macchiato Pinotage (£6.49)

Aldi’s £6.49 Macchiato Pinotage is a bold South African red with a twist, it’s infused with notes of coffee.

At first pour, the aroma is rich and unmistakably coffee-like, balanced by dark fruit. On tasting, the coffee is subtle, more of a smoky, chocolatey undertone than a strong kick, making it smooth and sophisticated.

It's perfect for cosy evenings or a BBQ, this limited-edition wine feels far pricier than it is.

Coffee and wine are usually the same people - so, if thats you - you'll love this unusual wine.
